The party surrounded the house, when thc officers and Mr. Taylor entered tit and commenced their search. They found scat? tered over the floor or the dee upwards or eight or ten couples or disreputable character. The last couple reached discovered the game, and Mr. Taylor nailed his captive, who, Unding himself recognized, made an ?Hort to escape through the .window, but was brought to by a timely shot .from the pistol or Mr. Taylor, lt wa? with great difficulty that the officers prevented the crowd ?which was assembled from rescuing the prisoner. In calling attention to the fact that a season of opera ls about to be Inaugurated in this city under the competent control of the accomplished prima donna, Mrs. Caroline Rlchings-Bcrnard, and that the first representation will take place on Mon? day, the 20th instant, wo are sure that wc shall alford unaffected pleasure to the music lovers of Charleston. Mrs. Bernard (known to the lyric stage as Caroline Rich lng:;) conceived tho idea of popularizing the work of thc great masters, and presenting them In English form to thc public. Bslng an excellent linguist as well as vocalist, she brought to thc task of translating her libret? tos from the French and German, the finest ac? quirements. Beginning in 18C8, she has brought out and successfully performed twenty-five ope? ras, tea ot which are of her own translation. It was ia that year that she gathered around her her present troupe, composed of the best artists. The troupe has played ten months out of twelve for the last four years, and in a manner to establish its reputation above all the German and Italian companies in this country. The Empres?arla is said to be an enthusiast in her heart, and has devoted her un? tiring energies to thc perfection of her troupe. The troupe has run a brillaint career in thc North and West, and In New Orleans, even in competition with the admirable French company at thc Opera-House. has sung to over? flowing houses. From the programme of thc Charleston Ger? man Sch?tzenfest, printed at the Job Office of TnE NEWS, we glean the following* particulars of the forthcoming celebration on the 9th, loth, nth, 12th and 13th of May next: On Monday, the 9th, at G o'clock A. M., thc fes? tival will be announced by a salute of twelve guns, Immediately after which, the riflemen will assem? ble at their headquarters, at Lindstedt's Hall. An hour later, the king will be escorted to the head? quarters and the Une formed. It will then parade through the city, via Klug, Broad, East Bay, Mar? ket, Meeting streets to the South Carolina Rail, road Depot, where the members will take the cars and proceed to the grounds, their approach being announced by a salute or twelve guns. After thc arrival on the grounds, the president of thc club, Captain A. Melchers, will greet thc visiting ?nd participating societies, receive their banner?, and invite all to a banquet. Alter this, the distri? bution or numbers ror the eagle shootiug will take place. Prize target shooting mr gentlemen will be rrom 12 M. to 4 o'clock I\ M., and the prize target shooting for ladles rrom 1 to 4 o'clock P. M. Dancl ig rrom 12 M. to 7 o'clock P. M. At 4 rj'clock P. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morn ng, the riflemen will meet at the Schutzenplatz. The prize target shootiug tor gentlemen will com nence at 9 o'clock A. AI. and end at 4 P. M. Prize arget shooting for ladles will be from 1 o'clock 0 4 o'clock P. M. The shooting at the eagle akes place rrom 9 o'clock to 4, and at the target >r honor rrom 12 M. to l o'clock P. M. Dancing rom 12 M. to 7 P. M. Leslie and Miss Nichols will ?errorm on these days, also. On Friday the shooting will begin as on the jther days, but will termluate at 10 o'clock. At 1 o'clock the klug will bc crowned and the prizes llstributed with appropriate remarks rrom the )rator of the day. There will be a grand ball 'rom 12 M. to IO P. M. At the conclusion or the 'cstivltles a salute or three gnus will be fired.
