SHEFFIELD, March 26.-Some good orders
have recently come to hand from Russia for rail?
way material and some other descriptions or ?
goods-but with the other continental markets
trade la only quiet. The American spring season
must now b> regarded as over, and, on the whole,
it must be regarded as unsattsructory. Thc basis

been agreed upon, and a more active trade in
those goods may now be expected. With the
.London and provincial maikets a steady trade ls
?being done. As a rule, the heavy brauehes of I
our local trade are much more active than the

steady Improvement has set in.
LEEDS, March 26.-There hos been a modera-e
number of buyers iu the woollen trade here this
we?k, and the aggregate business done is rcpo-'
ed to be larger than that or last week. fht
weather, however, having been cold and ungc
nlal, has caused light goods to have but slow sale.
Manufacturers are imire or less turning their at?
tention to the production or goods suitable lor the
autumn and winter trade, aud a few sample par?
cels or such have been secured by some of the
representatives or shipping houses. The country
clothiers are Tar from being busy, and some or
i hose who make tweeds are slack, but sonic or
thc latter class or goods are in good request. At
to-tiay's markets in the cloth balls there was no
alteration m prices to note. Olive oil, which ls
much used in the mannrncture or woollen cloth,
has declined 33s per ton dthin the past week, but
the prices or wools keep very full.
MANCHESTER, March 26.-The yarn and cl jth
market has not undergone much change Einee
last week. Tne upward tendency of prices at the
beginulng of this week has been reversed, owing
to the large arrivals of cotton in the Mersey (up?
ward or 120,000 bales) and larger arrivals than
expected on tho American seaboard. A good
deal of business was precipitated upon the mar?
ket, however, early in the week by thc firmer at?
titude of sellers, and some contracts were placed
more or less for distant delivery in shirtings and
other cloths for the East. Many of the contracts
which have so long kepr, and still keep, our mills
engaged, are for cloths suited to the markets or
China. The prices of cotton, which closed at an
advance last week, have been easier for some
days past, but this has not yet told much on the
prices or yarn and cloth, though lt has caused
considerable reluctance on the part of buyers to
operate. It has told roost on thc spinners ol home
trade yarns, who lu some instances have accepted
>?'d to \'d per lb lower rates. Spinners of export
yarns, suoh as 40's, arc Arm, and 16's to 24's, and
2S's to C2's water twist are unaltered in value.
Fine yarns are In rather better demand, but
coarse are comparatively dnll of sale. In cloths,
shirtings maintain their value rather steadily,
with a difficulty or placing orders ror carly delive?
ry, and Mexican and ordinary T-cloths are much

CONTINENTAL COSSITMITIOX.-Some surprise is
expressed thot the continental demand should bi?
so large. The exports this week are 38.249 boles,
and since 1st September. :.C0,0C2 against r43 371
same time last year, or an excess or 216,691 l?ales.
It ls argued that thc demand lu Great Britain for
thc continent, from now to 1st September will lie
very small, on account of these large shipments
from America.
The exports from Liverpool from sth April to 2d
September averaged 10,658 bales u week, and we
think this year's export will be about as much,
because :
1. From 1st September to Sth April, the Conti?
nent took 145,000 less than the year before from
Liverpool and Loudon.
2. The Continental consumption has increased
quite as fast ns that of Great Britain, because of
the lower prices, and 10 per cent, increase would
require about 200,000 bales increased supply. So
rar this season the net Increase Is only 71,f oo
bales, so that the Continent must take 130.000
more than last year from this time on, either
from this country or Great Britain, to keep Hie
stock on 1st September from running below ihm
oflast year.

total packing of hogs lu the West, as made up by
the '-Cincinnati Price Current," has been con?
siderably revised and corrected In this week's
issue, showing quite a different face from the
first report, but we think it short of the fact vet.

Current, woahl number as near as may be 2,700,
000 head of last year's average weight, agar.st

The market to-day closes firm with an upward
tendency, and higher prices were obtained for
some articles.
MESS POKE was in active demand at $27 with
early sales at this, bnt later $27 25 was paid an '
