COTTON.-The market opened with a good de
maud at firm rate*, on the basis of 22c 9 lb for
middlings, which on receipt or telegrams from
New York became much strengthened, prices
moving up irrecularly but generally to the extent
of %@%cfi lb, middlings in some transactions
bringing 22%c fi lb; the latest intelligence, how?
ever, being less favorable, the article closed quiet.
The absence or offering stock prevented buyers
from operating to any important degree. The
sales were about 240 bales, say 41 at 18; 19 at 18%;
ll at 19;9 at 20; 15 at 20%; 24 at 21%: 3 at 21%;
43 at 22; 14 at 22%; 35 at 22%; 17 at 23. Wc quote,

Tue prominent featuie ur thc market during
the week tinder review, has been precisely the
reverse of what it was the week before. Then
prices were declining everyday; this week they
have advanced daily. On the date of our last
weekly review, the Macon market closed finn
with a good demand at IB cents; this evening it
closed very firm at 20 cents for middling, with a
strong demand and but little offering-showing
an advance of fully two cents per pound on the
week's operations.

ed hands during the week at Irregular prices, say
14}, to 19>?c. The market being demoralized, ac?
curate quotations cannot bc given. Latest New
York telegrams quote the market a shade Armer,
with an advanceof }?c on the finer crades.
MONTGOMERY, March 19.-Cotton market is
firm to-day at 19>?c for low middlings. Holders
