COTTON.-The cotton market has tended steadily
downward daring the week, notwithstanding the
receipts at Southern ports show a falling orr. The
unsettled state of the gold market has put a stop
to all active movements, and prices have touched
a lower point than was generally believed a few
weeks ago, the decline of the week having been
lalS'c per l".?. We quote ordinary at 20a20>ic;
good ordin?r" 2la2l%c; low middling 22a22%c,
and middling 22%a23c per lb, Including uplands
and gulf. Some lots of middling uplands have
been forced off as low at 22c per lb, and the mar?
ket at the close is dull and unsettled.
DOMESTICS.-Prints continue very unsettled and
have been selling at low figures here and In New
York, the aetion of leading New York jobbers hav?
ing completely broken down prices, and sales are
nc kiug at figures considerably under pro
ducu- u. Other cotton goods have not varied ma?
terially, but the demand is quite limited, as lower
prices generally are now looked for. In woollens
there is no change, but the '.emand ls quite mod?
erate.
FISH.-There has been a steady demand for
codfish, and nrices-bave not varied. Thesales
have been at" $5 25a7 60 per qtl for medium and
large, including all kinds. In hake, there have
been sales at $3a3 25, loose, and $3 75a4 per qtl,
packed. Pollock have been selling at $2 76a4 per
qtl. Mackerel are quiet, but prices remain the
same. We quote sales of No 1 at $26a27 50 per bbl
for bay and shore: No 2 at $l5al6; and No. 3, ^ 13a
18 50 tor large, and $9a9 60 ror medium. Ia ale?
wives, sales at $450o536 per bbl, in bond. Pickled
herring have been in moderate demand at $4a7
per bbl, including common and Labrador. In box
herring sales at 28a32c for No 1, and 38a42c for
scaled. ID salmon, small sales at previous prices.
FRUIT.-Malaga raisins are quiet, and the sales
have been confined to small lots at $4 40at so for
layers. In Smyrna figs, there have been sales of
15,000 drums at 12%al3c per lb. In dates aad
peanuts the sales have been In small lots as wanted
by the trade. The import of 4580 boxes oranges
and 500 boxes lemons per Wanata from Messina,
Bold at $3 87% for oranges and $350 ror lemons.
GUNNY BAGS.-Market firm, with sales of 700
bales at 10%c, gold, in bond, to arrive, and 250
bales at ile, gold, in bend, also to arrive,
GUNNY CLOTH.-The demand ls quite active, and
largs speculative purchases bave been made, en
the spot and te arrive, at a farther advance.
Sales or 175 bales at 20%, currency, 163 bale3 at
19% gold, and 6000 bales in bond at 12%al3%c
gold. Higher prices are now asked. Domestic
bagging ls selling In small lots at 24c per yord.
HAY.-The market i*nrm, with sales or com?
mon at $17al8, and good priment $20a24per ton.
Stock light.
NAVAL STORES.-In spirits turpentine the sales
have been confined to small lots at 47a48c per
gallon. Tar ls quiet, and in rosin and pitch noth?
ing ol any consequence bas been dene. Some
?ooa&OO bbls common strained to pale rosin sold
at $230a6 per bbl.
RICE.-Market dull and the sales have .been in
small lots at 6a6%c per lb.
Savannah Market.
SAVANNAH, March 10.-COTTON.-The contin?
ued decline iugoid has had a corresponding effect
upon the cotton market, yet the business of the
week has been brisk, and the sales have reached
7000 balts, at prices nut varying much from the
close of the market last week. Thc stock on hand
at the close of the market yesterday was 61,331
bales upland and 2462 bales sea island-from the
former figures 200 bales, and from the latter 30u
bales must be deducted, being theamount burned
on the 9th lu?t. The receipts at ad the ports fool
up 2.137,496 bales; the stock on hand at all ports
to latest dates reach 531,558 bales, against 388,776
bales the same time last year.

Fears are entertained for the safety of the sehr
Allen Middleton, Jr, (of Providence.) Ames, from
Georgetown, S C, for New Haven. She was spoken
off Cape Hatteras, February 7, with four feet of
water In the hold, by Captain Smith, of bark
Maggie McNeil, which arrived at Providence on
thc 14th. Captain Smith lay by her for four hours,
and bis crew assisted In throwing off her deck
load of lumber; Captain Ames theu thought he
could get her into port, but Bite has not since
been heard from. She was au A2 vessel of 217
tons register, built at Milford. Del, in 1857, aud
was In excellent condition when she left port.
The sehr Francisco, Crowther, sailed from Wil?
mington, N C. February 2, for Bnltimoro, with a
cargo of lumber and phosphates, and has not
nineo been heard from.
The sehr Abigail Halev, ashore at ScTtnate, has
jone to pieces.
