All traces or yellow fever have dis? appeared from the vessel, and she ls now in good sanitary condition. Of the twenty-five men placed lu the Lazaretto on tho vessel's arrival, ueventcen have been returned cured and eight havo died. _? THE PEOPLE'S.NATIONAL BANK.-Mr. C. O. Witte, who was elected, yesterday, the presi? dent of this bank, is a retired merchant of large means, and tho Consul for Charleston of the North German Confederation. LATINO OP THE CORNBR-STONB OP THE NEW HAM. OP THE FRBDNDSOHAFTSBOXD.-The ceremo? ny of laying the corner-stone of the new hall of the Prenndschaftsbnnd will take place to-day at 5 o'clock. The different German societies have been invited to attend, and the stone will be laid with Masonic rites by Walhalla Lodge. Tho lot at the corner of Meeting and George streets ls an admirable site for a public building; and if the present plans are followed, the structure will be one of the archi? tectural ornaments of the city. No. 1, with dele-| g?tions from the Phoenix, Vigilant, Washington and Stonewall, assembled at their respective nouses at an early hoar yesterday morning, and, escorted by the "stay at home crowd," proceeded to the depot and embarked for Augusta, to par? ticipate in the grand celebration to take place in Uiat city to-day. We have already given Borne outline of what the Augusta firemen Intend to do, and feel assured that the Charleston firemen will rcoelre a hearty welcome and an honored place tn the contest which might possibly result in their favor. Tho performance of LaRue's Minstrels at the Academy last evening was remarkably good, and deserved a much better house. The ballads and artas in the first part of the evening were well rendered, especially Mr. Haman's "Nobody's Child," which displayed his fine voice to advan? tage. Holmc3'Lyceum was welt atteuded last night, despite the severity of thc weather. Tho musical porformanc -s of tho Tremaine nrotners and Pres? ton were fully equal to the promises or tho hand? bills, and the wonderful qualities ofthenurdett or? gan were displayed to their heit ad van tige. Thc performance was given in aid of Trinity Church, with a view of interesting that congregation in the practice of the organ. The fair at the Hibernian Hali, in aid of St. Joseph's Church, will positively ciosc on Thursday night, and the Catholics of the city have bnt three moro opportunities of showing their appre? ciation of a most deserving charity. In point of attractiveness, tho fair shews no railing off. The tables arc still loaded down with good things, and the different games arc carried on with nuilagging spirit. At the Academy or Music, No. 2. last night, thc programme bogan with tho farce of "ChingChi Hum,"and ended with "The Menagerie." This, wo may remarle, is the only plaoa where one may "see the elephant'' without serious moral or peen* niary damage There will bu au catire ohango of programme to-night. Yesterday afternoon the Catholic malo and .? male orphans, numbering about a hundred, visited thc fair, and were shown in a practical way thc good things or life. Last of all they had a turn at the "grab bag." and wcut homo to dream of a land where Santa Claus and Catholic Fair bloom every day lu thc year. The children of the City Orphanliousc were in? vited by the managers to visit thc fair un yester? day. Among the many acceptable presents sent to the fair was a boue3 tarter, garnished with fruits and Jelly, from the rainons Mills House kitchen. Tho thanks of the fair were tendered the proprie? tor, Mr. Parker, and the turkey was rallied off without delay. The new ball In the Academy of Music was opened lost night to a good audience who braved the cutting Masts and keon wintry air to enjoy the sweeter airs that the Borger Family ring from their slivery bells. This troupe though young In years, arc talented performers on a variety or musical instruments, though tho bells arc their great forte. The programme offered last night was varied with solos on thc violin and harp, aid some exquisite singing bj Miss Maud Stanley, the vocalist or the troupe. Miss Anna and Ettie Ber? ger gave some v ell remembered Scotch ballads charmingly, and the entire troupe brought out their musical skill on a grand bell medley aud in the sliver cornet band. . A pleasing foaturc In the entertalumenr ls the raclllty with which the .performers, particularly the ladles, can adapt themselves to the, different Instruments and form such a happy concord of sweet sounds. The troupe passed through several of the principal streets during thc morning, aud gave the public a good samplejof their musical ability.
