Op to Thursday there was a busy and advancing
market for both yarn and cloth, In Consequence
of the speculative movement ci cotton, which
ended In transactions for Ifts week to tuc amount
of 127,000 bales, lt ls somewhat remarkable that
spinners shou'.d have pressed on thc cotton mar?
ket ror some weeks past to cover their engage?
ments, seeing that thc American crop was com?
ing forward BO freely as to point almost with cer?
tainty to easier prices. Such, however, appears
to have been their general policy, and hence they
bave forced up prices fully x<l to Xd V lb. In
shipping yarns this week an exceedingly
large business has been done, buyers protesting
against the advance of prices, but still yield?
ing lt, so that these spinnings are fullv Xd f th
above tho rates of Tuesday. The sales Include
fair quantities or 4's to 14's and io's to 24's,
and 28's IO 32'S, water twist, ror the conti
ment and ror China. There have also neon fair
transactions In 40's mule and the finer counts for
India and China-GO'S being Xd per lb dearer. A
good many or the spinners ot these are under
contract till Christmas. A similar advance In
prices has been obtained In home trade yarns,
and a business has been done clearing oil'stocks
and placing more spinners under contract. In
cloths, 39 inch shirtings, prices are l<{iito3d
dearer than lust week: and 46 Inch to 64 Inch ure
3d to 4Xd per piece dearer: and buyers, though
unwillingly, have placed fair orders at thc ad?
vance. Blakers of jaconets nnd mulls have rahed
their quotations ld to lXd per piece. Printers
arc advsnced to about the same extent as 30 Inch
shirtings. Mexican and ol her qualities or T cloths
have sold rallier more rreMy, and so have long
cloths, snd'sre rather dearer. Such ls the gen
oral course or the market up to Thursday, and In
the aggregate a large business was effected. Yes?
