Mr. Prentiss; and a package of tea from a friend as a Christinas offering. Tax BILI, OP MOBTALITT.- The mortuary report for the week ending -December 18 shows a total of 17 deaths, 5 white aad 12 colored. Of the former 3 were female adults, 1 male and 1 female infant. The colored were 6 male and S female adults, and 1 female infant. Three of the deaths were from old age, and 9 of the 17 were over 40 years of age. RECOVERY OF"* A WATCH.-The gold watch and chain recovered by Lieutenant Philippi from some colored thieves who were endeavoring to pawn lt at a King street store, has been claimed by a gentleman rrom Savannah. He telegraphed the number and description of his lost watch, which tallied exactly with that la the hands or the detectives, and he is now rejoicing tn the pos? session or his timekeeper. SALB OF SECURITIES.-Mr. S. C. Black sold yesterday $11,000 City of Charleston six per cent, bonds, atoo cents; $0000 for 54 cents; $4000 for 53ii cents per share. 86 whole shares South Carolina Railroad and Bank stock for 58* to 58>? cents per share. 50 whole shares of Bank of Charleston stock for $24 S5 per share. Mure A Co., agents of the Liverpool Steam Line 1 at this port, are determined that shippers shall re? ceive every facility, and their vessels are coning with regularity and load with dispatch. The British steamship Adalla, a superior vessel, ar? rived here yesterday from Liverpool, consigned to them, with a general cargo. She left Novem? ber 30, and experienced heavy gales west of Ber? muda. The Adalla ls commanded by Captain Sanderson, a skilful officer, and she will be ready to receive freight as soon as her Inward cargo ls discharged. CKCMBS.-A young son of Dr. W. L. Temple? ton, of Columbia, was wounded In the leg by thc accidental discharge of a pistol, on Sunday last. The wound is painful, but ls not considered dan? gerous. An army of 32,000 Northern drummers are now raiding on the Southern States. The Christmas Offering by thc Rev. W. W. Hicks has been printed In fJermau for the Lutherans of that denomination. The freights to all points in the interior are now quite heavy, and the Express office ls dally orowd ed with goods awaiting shipment. ANOTHER APPEAL FOR THE MAILS.-An au? thorised mall agent ls now running regularly between Columbia and Brauet ville, co ti ace tin g with the train from Charleston at the latter point. Tho pc?tofflces on the Columbia branch of the South Carolina Railroad are few and far between, while thc?3 on the Augusta branch are both more numerous and connect with a more populous baot country. If the Congressmen from this State have the Interests of their constituents at heart, they will take such measures during the present session aa will give equal postal advan? tages to the persons residing ea the latter route. Under the present schedule, the points between Branohvllle and Augusta do not receive the Charleston malls until four hours after they are due^Some arrangement could certainly be made that would obviate this delay, and the present is the time to puah the matter home.
