On Thursday last, December 9th, the market

Friday, 10th, the market opened with a brisk

NASHVILLE, December 14.-COTTON'.-At the
opening of the present, week, thc market was
quiet and without animation at 22'.jC for the best
grades, but has been steadily improving, the weeli
closuig on a steady market at 23c for low mid?
dling. The receipts of the week foot up 2121 bales,
against I54S bales for thc corresponding week
hist year, and thc shipments were ir.97 bales,
against 1700 the same week last year. The sales
for the week tnclndc 1>23 bales, against 2ooo hist
year. Prices during tho present week last year
opened at 2n\a21c and closed at 21,',a22 for the
best selections. To-day the market ruled steady
throughout the morning, and the transactions
were, to a fair extent, at 23c for low middling.
The late telegrams from New York, however,
caused buyers to be more particular in their se?
lections and cautious In their operations, several
good runnia;: lists being left on factor's tables at
23c. At the close, the market was dull and easier,
ami to effect sales some concessions would have
to be made from quotations, which arc nominal
as follows: Ordinary 21.'ia22c: good ordinary
22>?e; low middling 23c.
