The authorities are also particularly -directed io see that the provisions or thu ordi? nance are enforced, and that none of the oils re? ferred to are stored within the city limits. PUNCTUAL ATTENDANCE*-At the last meet? ing or CouncB the Mayor urged the Aldermen to -be more prompt tn their attendance, or he should cad Council to order at the appointed hour, and if no quorum appeared within twenty minutes, the'meeting would bc dismissed. This is an old . rule, and has always been enforced until the ad Tent of the new regime. THB ACADEMY OF MUSIC-"Aladdin," or the Wonderful Scamp,'' was played last" night to a dr/isely crowded house. Miss Blanche Chapman ^Aladdin) and Miss Ella Chapman (Pekoe) sang and acted charmingly, and were well supported by Miss Reynolds (Radroulbadour,) Mr. Kennedy (Abanozar,) and' Mr. Hodges (tho Emperor of ? China.) Bishop os Aladdin's mother, the Widow ? Tvrankey, Vas astonishingly funny, in dress, yoke and manner. The music was very good-Mr. Withers leading the orchestra with Judgment and taste. To-night we have the burlesque "Fra Dlavolo,' with the famous farce. "Wanted a Thousand Mil <Uners." FiRB.-^About three o'clock yesterday morn? ing the premises on the west side of Coming Street, a few doors above Wentworth, were dis? covered to be tn flames, and though tho alarm iras promptly sounded, the Are had attained some 'headway bet?re the arrival or the engines. The Ure originated in a kitchen owned by Mr. Anckcr, .and that with an adjoining dwelling and outbuild? ings, owned and occupied by Mr. John Zanoga, were partially consumed. Though the houses la the neighborhood were of wood, and the burning flakes were carried some distance from the fire, yet the firemen succeeded in confining thc flames to the bondings above-mentioned. Mr. Zanoga lost his furniture and a large sum in Bank of the State bills. The buildings were Insured la the agencies of Messrs. Colbara A Howdl. While at the fire Mr. Ives Edgerton, a member j of the Vigilant Fire Company, was struck on tba | shoulder by a failing timber and seriously injured. Though insensible for a time, he is not considered Ja danger. XEftRO BONVS.-lu thc Baltimore City Court, on Saturday morning, Cbief Justice Scott iiled au opinion in the case ol Samuel R. Bullington, trus? tee of Elizabeth Kelton, vs. Aunie L. Davis. This suit was brought on thc 19th of February. 1869' to recover the sum of twelve hundred dollars and Interest, alleged to lie dt:? upon the promissory note of thc defendant, made at Charleston, S. C., 16th March, 1S61, and payable at eight months, with Interest, to C. R. Brewster or order, and by him endorsed, without reeourse to the plaintiff as trustee, Ac. Tae defendant pleaded that the note was gi\cn for the purchase of a negro, and that an ordi? nance of South Carolina, passed in 1S6S, made null and void all contracts thc consideration of which was thc purchase of slaves. The plaintiffs demurred, anti the demurrer was sustained by the Justice. The plaintiffs were represented by Chancelor Inglis, ?ate cf the Appecl Bench of South Carolina, and by J. Du Gue Ferguson, Esq., a promising young Charlestonian, who has practiced law in Balti? more for the last two years, pud is rising rapidly In the rani:s of his profession. Hicks, tn aid of the funds of this excellent institut!ou. During i he year the association has been battling along, doing'ali that it could with its scanty means, and making Its Influence felt in many a once luxurious Home. The association ls to our mind especially worthy of support, because lt is uot an alms-giving or pauperizing Institution, but a means or giving ladies in reduced circumstances un opportunity to cara a livelihood. Work is furnished by* the association to such persons, and the completed work is then sold or delivered to tho.e by whom it was ordered. All that the association distri? butes ls lu the shape of payment for work done. The association has a depository in Chalmers street, where articles made by persons lu need are exposed for sale. The funds of the associa? tion are now at a low ebb, and it is absolutely necessary that something bc done for its assist? ance. Its plan aud parp?se must commend it to every heart, and we hope that the returns on Sunday evening will show that our people have still a lively appreciation of works of charity and love.
