representative and magistrate, who is al
reudy under bonds to keep tho pouce, beuped
Ids maledictions ou tho rebels of the district,
who, he said, "he was ready to kill at a mo

Four citizcDB of Abbeville are pursuod
by an excited crowd of negroes and arrested
without warrant or pretext, other than the
statement that one of their number had
spoken of tho colored people, before Con
gressman lloge, as "niggers." Their of-'
fence hath this extent.; but they are hauled
off to jail, while the Radical orator, as
usual, seeks safety in flight This is tho
w iy in which respectable mon aro treated ;
while Congressmen H?ge and Whittomoro
excite a riot, Representative Jones threaten s
to kill the rebels, and Representative Guffla
threatens to kill the Democrats and burn their
houses. No arrest of these men is made,
nor is it even hinted that what thoy do Is a
grievous burning wrong.
Nor do those rioters go too fur. Thoy
know Hint so long as their Radicalism is
sound thoy run no risk, whatever thoy may
say or do. They show thoir appreciation of
the horrible fact, that In South Carolina
every law, every officer aud ovory proclama
tion, is intended to shield the Ra.'ic I and
strip the oppononta of BadloalLoii of all
shinlow of protection. They know what
tholr power Is, and It will not ho tholr fault
if tho colored people do not tako tho hints
which they throw out, aud attempt to wiu
by force the lands and homos which tho
Radicals failed to givo them. These Radi
cals pray for a negro rising; they will be
disappointed, and thoir Old Master will for

sons for suspending the law are cogently
