ture, got out of the cars, accompanied by a
squad of armed negroes, and made a speech,
in which he said, "The first Republican

"crat shall be killed and their houses burned

nal, perhaps, but highly characteristic.
In Georgetown, t\ few days ago, a negro
representative and magistrate, who is al
ready under bonds to keep the pouce, heaped
Ids inalodiclions on the rebels of tho district,
who, he sai I, "he was ready to kill at a 1110
"lnent's notice," as "he was accustomed to
"kill Southern rebels!" This \i another
model legislator.
Pour citizens of Abbeville tire pursuod
by an excited crowJ of negroes and arrested
without warrant or pretext, other than the
statement that one of their nunihor had
spoken of the colored people, before Con
gressman H?ge, as "niggers." Their of-'
fence hath this extent; but they are hauled
off to jail, while the Radical orator, as
usual, seeks safety in Might. This is tho
way in which respectable mon are treated ;
while Congressmen H?ge and Whittomore
excite, a riot, Representative Jones threatens
to kill the rebels, and Representative Gufllu
threatens to kill the Domocrats and burn their
houses. No arrest of these men is made,
nor is it even hinted that what they do is u
grievous burning wrong.
Nor do these rioters go too far. They
know that ho long as their Radicalism Is
sound llioy run no risk, whatever lliey may
say or do. They show thoir appreciation of
the horrible Tact, that in South Carolina
every law, overy officer and ovcry proclama
tion, is intended lo shield the Radical and
strip the oppoiioiits of Radicalism of all
shadow of protection. They know what
their power is, and it will not be their fault
if the colored people do not tako tlio hints
which thoy throw out, nud attempt to win
by Torce the lands and homes which tho
Radicals failed to givo them. These Radi
cals pray for a negro rising; they will bo
disappointed, and thoir Old Muster will for
salto thorn when conies tlio tug of war.

and these thieving Cossacks shall bo sent
clattering back to the Hudos of shamo and
disgrace. Then may whites and blacks
live at lust in prosperity and penco.
