W. Janies Conner, Grand Muster, presiding. The other (H and oihccrs were all present lu their respective chairs, aud thc Masonic Hall was crowded to Hs utmost extent, by a large, enthusiastic und intelligent repre? sentation from the craTt. With few exceptions, every lodge iti thc jurisdiction answered to thc call or the Grand Secretary, thus evidencing the great Interest taken In the mystic order by thc members of the entire craft. lt was resolved that Ute reading of tito minutes be dispensed with, as printed copies were in the hands or the craft. Also, That an invitation bc extended to all Muster Masons in good standing to be present at the session of tue Grand Lodge. Thc Grand Master then delivered his annual address, reviewing thc Masonic history of Gie present year. In this address, tho Grand Master announces thc adjustment of thc difficulties which existed between Hie Grand Lodges or Vir? ginia and West Virginia, and recommended that thc latter bc recognized. Ile says thal thc actio' ?r our subordinate lodges had been kept within thc limits or recognized Masonic principles, and that no conilicl or jurisdiction had arisen. In 1865, only twenty-six were represented. Now one hundred and forty-three lodges, with six thousand members, arc lu operation including thirteen dispensations granted to lodges during the post year. The G. M. ad? vises caution in ctinrtering new lodges, und that care bc taken in selecting their names. He has decliucd to conder degrees on candidates who ore maimed, thc weight or authority being against him, and expresses Iiis disapproval ol thc prac? tice of giving inore than one degree on thc same night. The G. M. also calls attention to thc * recognition by thc (?rand Orient of Frnucc of "The Supremo Connell or the A. and A. S. Kite, m and for thc ?sovereign State or Louisiana," an irregular Masonic body, and recommends thc adoption or a resolution similar to that adopted ty thc Grand Ledge of New York on tho same subject. Thc G. M. urges thc erection of a Grand Masonic temple equal to thc accommodation of thc Grand Lodge and subordinate lodges, and In conclusion gratcruily acknowledges his obliga? tions to thc officers ar thc Grand Lodge, thc Mas? ters ot lodges, and tuc brethren ror their cordial support. An amendment to Article leo of Constitution or Grand Lodge, Inserting arter thc words "Master or nearest lodge" thc words "that thc members or said new lodge have paid up all dues to their former lodges," was proposed, and was, on mo? tion, laid on thc table. An amendment to Article 15 of Constitution or Grand Lodge to strike out thc words "such place as thc Grand Lodge may from time to time deter? mine," and Insert "Charleston," was proposed, and was, on motion, laid on thc table. An amendment to article 92 or the Constitution or thc Grand Lodge, read at thc last regular com? munication, to strike out words "passed or "?raised," and Insert "but In any case when a can? didate is to bc cither passed or raised, a ballot shall bc taken ir the same ls demanded by any member of the lodge," and by Inserting after the words "unanimous consent" the words "which consent shall bc expressed in the usual manner by ballot" came np for action, and was, on mo? tion, laid on thc table.
