Sodden Hkatii.?Mr. Henry Ooljon, nn old
resilient of this city, died suddenly, on Sal unlay,
from disease of i he heart, lie had eaten his dinner,
and was in apparent good health when the stroke
came without warning. Ity his Industrious and
frugal habits Mr. Octjon had acquired ii nice prop,
erty, and was among our most respected Herman
fellow-citizens. He was llfty-six years of age,
and had been a resident of L'hurleston for thirty
four years. He leaves a wife und four children.
As Involuntary Bath.?Early yoslerdny
morning, while a benighted Individual was lortu
ously wending his way homeward, he encounter*
cd the Artesian Well troughs, In Wentworlh
street. The sight of so much water evidently
made him sea sick, and a sudden lurch destroy

bat at the bottom of the trough. The situation
was embarrassing, but the ducking proved mute
efficacious than the famous "hock and soda,"
and he resumed bis homeward trump a welter and
a wiser man, though more firmly convinced that
water should be taken with moderation.
Accident to TiiR Academy of Music.?Tha
heavy rain of Friday ulght caused some damage
lo the ceiling or Ihc Opcra-Housc, a portion of the
fresco work having beeu saturated with water
which caused It to fall lo the ground. It appears
that a skylight over the third tier hail not been
glazed, but only covered by a tarpaulin. This
proved an Insufficient protection, but the damage
was fortunately confined to the scroll work and
can be easily repaired. If the dome had been In
jured, It would have been a much more serious
mailer, it Is proposed, notwithstanding the ac
cident, to have the Interior Ki-urrohting removed
by Tuesday night, so as to allow the upholsterers
full swing. _

since, he traced his man to the South Carolina
Railroad depot, and then nnd there seized him.
The game was snared untl all seemed serene, but
the wily prisoner proved again to be too smart
for his captor, und raising hisstick he tapped Hie
constable on the cranium. The blow was given
with a vim, and the constable, wilting under its
effects, relaxed bis hold and (he quondam prison
er measured off the ground on a lively pair or
legs. The constable registered a huge oath i'*-it

Pilotage.?Tim Philadelphia Lodger says :
"At a meeting or the vessel owners and captains'
association of Philadelphia, on Wednesday, (he

and a resolut ion passed instructing the captains of

port of Charleston unless a pilot renders service.

A large ami attentive audience assembled last
evening, in St. Patrick's Church, to hear a lecluru
from lllshop Lynch on the "IJi|uefacllon of the
blood or St. Januarius." The lllshop gave his
audience a vivid description or a visit to Italy,
with run details of the miracle a* wtluesscd i?y
himself. He ilepicted in glowing colors the trials
of the saint, and his martyrdom about ilfteen
centuries ago, and closed With a life-like picture
of Naples ami the church where Hie miracle oc
curs. St. Januarius was killed by llioclesean, on
the P.ith September, 'l'J.?, and every year since, at
the same date, his blood, which was carefully
preserved, is saht lobe lupiilicil. The lllshop kept
the attention of Ills audience to the close of Ihe
lecture. It was given to defray the debt of the
church, ami will realize a handsome amount.
The audience was comprised of every denomina
tion, and numbers who could not obtain seals
remained standing.
