A!;?::'. half-past Ion o'clock last night, nlioily or colored men marching in military order, under cointnnnd of un eiuullctlcd iitiick captain, und rejoicing in I lie nnmeof I lie "Cornel sinr Light Infanlry," repaired with martial music to Hie ofllec of Thrcc-thousand-dollar Corhin, In llroud, near King Blroet, where several of tliu har monious magnates or Hie Itepiihllcnn party, rtiiiy charged with whiskey und eloquence, wore pa Hen tly awaiting a serenade. Tile Company was drawn up In line Oil the edge of the pavement, and the music of the hand soon gathered 11 crowd of perhaps two hundred men, women and hoys, with few exceptions of IhenatlU! color as the In appropriately termed light Infantry. when our reporter reached Ihe scene the first speakers had hud their say?among whom we learned was tin- valiant captor of Port Suinter, now the loyal A 'jutant und inspect or-Uciioral of the Slate. Young Moses addressed tho assem blage in his usual florid, pal riot lc and disinter ested style, and was loudly cheered. The band then struck up "Captain Jinks of Hie Hor-T Ma rines" in lively style, which led .in: reporter to anticipate a speech from III ponderous Inspector of Streets?but liiis was not to be. Instead, there were loud calls fur "llowen," "Kowcii," In re sponse to which Hie immaculate M. c. appeared at the window and returned thanks for the compli ment which the "gentlemen (sh'i of I he Comet star Light Infanlry" bad paid hint. He assured them thai he would lake occasion to address" his coli? Rlltiicnts here in this very lily of Charleston, ami thai in a very few days, in vindication of his course. Willi this cheering nnd liberal promise, he excused himself from any further remarks. Another tune from the band followed, after which there was n discord of euiliuslnstlci, but wholly unintelligible, shouts for varions parties who were wanted tu make tho next speech, finally, somebody managed to sound the name of "old Hilbert I'lllsbuty" in stentorian tones above the tumult, and our accommodating Mayor poked his head from an upper Window. He spoke for about ten minutes, opening with the mild suggestion that some of his hearers were probably laborers? Indeed, he would venture to say most of them were laborers. He then launched oui into a glo rification of tho rights and of the nobility of labor In general, anil or his own persistent and unselfish devotion to the labor interest in particu lar, concluding with congratulai ions addressed to the crowd on the great triumph which the la boring men hail recently achieved, and on the revolution which the lust few days bud witnessed In Ibis city In connection with the labor question. These remarks, of course, were hailed with loud acclamations 0f delight. Another tune by the hand?"Company, right dress!" "Touch elbows on Ihe right:" "Right face!" "Forward, .March!" "l'Ile Righi!" And then the black srpiads went marching and conn* tCDUarching in the middle of the street, their leader meantime whisking about Ills sword in a very dangerous fashion, and dually giving satis factory evidence of his proficiency in manoeuvres, by bringing his command In single nie to the front door of the Corbln wigwam, the "gentlemen or the Comet Star Light Infantry" Hied gal lantly in; for what our reporter would not have suspected, but for the volunteered suggestion of an uniulUtnry but knowing darkey, who shrewd ly surmised that "dem niggers wn-t gwhieto ticker up." , At Uils slime of the proceedings Hie assemblage I left, anil it Is to be presumed thill the Cornel .star serenade shoiily thereafter llxztcd out.
