ion that the custom of punishing seamen by

A number of our citizens from the neighbor
hood of Cullioiin's Mills were arrested und
brought to the village on yesterday by the
.static constabulary, iinderchnrgo of being con
cerned in the election disturbance on Wednes
day. As there Is much excitement und con
flicting accounts, ?c find it. difficult to give
definite Maternent*, ami therefore forbear
comment. From tho character,of tho parlies
accused, we feel assured I hat. they will be able
to vindicate themselves nt the proper lime.
Wo have the statements of two of the man
agers, very reliable men, thai o very thing
passed off very quietly until about two of three
o'clock In the evening, when at Ihe instiga
Uon of some of the constabulary, tin attempt
was mode by the negro guard lo clear the
polls, when the whites resisted nnd forced the
constabulary to leave. There wus no blood

anil ever must be so. It s to them that we at
