LIGHTS OM MORRIS ISLAND.-THE NEWS j has mentioned that the United States government | proposes placing two range lights on Morris Isl? and. Yesterday, through tbe courtesy or Major Geo. Burroughs, engineer or the sixth lighthouse dis? trict, we had an opportunity or inspecting the plans and specifications for these range lights, which. will be placed upon Morris Uland, near Lighthouse Inlet. The first light win be about twenty-two feet high, and the other, located five hundred yards distant, about thirty-seven feet in height, and when placed can be seen from Ute deck of a ship twelve miles orr. Two men had a fight here yesterday. One went into bankruptcy, and the other got his head ut chancery. Joseph Mitchell, negro, was sent to jail by Ma? gistrate Morrison yesterday, upon the charge of committing highway robbery upon Susan Robin sou. Wil-' kie, of Walterboro', for final discharges In bank? ruptcy, were referred to Registrar Carpenter, and final bearings ordered to take place before the Court at Columbia, on the 25th of November. Ia the case of Louis McLaln vs. David Rlker, the petition for extra compensation was referred' to Registrar Carpenter, to report If the petition? er is entitled to any extra compensation. Petition of Charles Phillips, of Darlington, for final discharge In bankruptcy, was referred to Registrar Carpenter, and final beating ordered to take place at Columbia, on the 25th of November. In the case of Louis McLaln vs. Ed. w. Sea? brook, petition to seU choses in action, lt was or? dered that tbe said Louis McLaln, assignee, have leave to offer the said choses in action at public auction. In the case of Louis McLain, assignee, vs. Ed. w. Seabrook, petition to sell real estate, it was ordered that the assignee sell, after twenty-one days' public notice, the property at public auction, in Charleston. The court then adjourned. Caulfield, who held the offices respectively of Assessor, Assistant Assessor, City Sheriff and Flour Inspector, to vacate them, and to have no? thing to do with the duties of the offices, books, papers, Ac, on pain of contempt of court; also that when these officers did meddle with the said books, papers and duties of said offices, either as officers pro tem., or while the offices were differently styled, the counsel for Messis. W. N. Hughes, Assessor, C. P. Frazer, Assistant Assessor, P. C. Ouerry, City Sheriff, and C. N. Averill Flour Inspector, notified the ousted offi? cials, who, acting under instructions of Council, were meddling with said offices, that on the 20th of thia month Chief Justice Moses, at Sumter, would be requested to grant a rule to make them show cause why they should not be attached for contempt of court Lu not complying with the orBerof court. . On tbe 99th, the counsel fon neither side ap? peared before Chief Justice Moses. The counsel for Messrs. Hughes et al. sent the necessary documents by mall. P. J. Coogan, M. G. Camp lta, colored, Geo. Addison and M. Caulfield, sent affidavits, asserting that they had not shown con? tempt of court, nor would they do so for anything. On the 31st, Chief Justice Moses issued an order to have a bearing of the cases on the 28th of this month. Y., instructing bim to ar? rest and hold until further orders George Hunter, a member or Skiff A Gaylord's minstrel troupe. Shortly after the reception of the dispatch, the Captain had Hunter arrested, and. now bas bim in charge. . Hunter Ls the little clog dancer or the troupe, in which Une he ls inimitable. He ls very communi? cative .and very shrewd. In a conversation with rum at the Guardhouse yesterday, he, after giving us a specimen or bis "heel and toe," "double shuf? fle,'- "pigeon wing," and a variety or other fancy movements, told us his history as follows: "I am eleven years old, and was born in Albany, N. Y. ; I went to see a minstrel show one night with mother, and the manager asked rae to Join, and I did so; mother was willing; this troupe pays me $10 a week and boards me; Bryants' Minstrels will board -nie and give me $20 a week; I am glad mother bas sent for me; I reckon lt ls because sha | wanta me to Join Bryant; and $20 a week ls better than $10, yer know; mother thinks I can't take care or myself, but I can; I intend to go to schcol and leam tobe smart in ray profession; lean black ap and. He concluded the last sentence In the furthest corner or th* room to which he had gotten by one or those movements peculiar to burnt-cork min Atrels; be then quickly returned on his heels and plied us with every Imaginable kind or question. For answers we referred him to the managers or the ?atc City High Court or Impeachment, and beat a retreat, not knowing but that when we opened our mouth to give an answer lt would give the Little knight or the burnt cork a desired opportunity or standing on bis head and putting hts feet down our throat. A VALUABLE FERTLLIZER.-We issue this morn? ing a supplement containing a number of letters from planten and others, in which they express their opinion or the famous "Soluble Pacific Guano," for which Mr. J. N. Robson, or this city, ls the agent. - The supplement also contains some valuable information in regard to the operations or the Pacific Guano Company, whose works at Charleston cost nearly two hundred thousand ! dollars. But the point which most concerns the farmer Lu buying fertilizers, Ls cheapness com? bined with efficiency. The costly element In the Pacific Soluble Guano Ls the ammonia, the sup. ply or which is limited in quantity. Without it the guano ls useless, and lt bas been the endeav? or or the Pacific Guarro Company to make avail? able, hitherto unused supplies or organic matter containing ammonia. Cotton seed is round to contain a large percentage or ammoniacal mat? ter, as well as carbonic acid, another important solvent. The Pacific Guano Company are now making "a compound acid phosphate or lime," which ls identical with the Soluble Pacific, except that lt contains no ammonia. This ls to be com? posted with cotton seed, resulting in a saving to the planter, it la claimed, of about thirty per cent. The whole details may be round in the supplement. Mr. J. N. Robson, the agent or South Carolina or the Pacific Guano Company, makes the follow? ing announcement: CHARLESTON, S. C., October 25.
