Kuf fln, the Radical sheriff of Richmond County, was shot and killed. And as lately as Friday lost our peaceful and gentlemanly fcllow-clilzcn of Hamburg, Mr. Robert Kernaghan, was arrested, placed in Irons, und taken lo Columbia on chargo or being the murderer. Tho arrest was effected at the Instance or thc notorious Hubbnrd, who mado an'affidavit to Hie effect that upon Informa? tion received, he hail reason to believe that Mr. Kernaghan committed the murder. We have no doubt that the accusation ls totally groundless, and that the whole thing ls a manifestation of long-nursed Radical malignity. A special messenger from the Governor or Geor? gia arrived In Columbia on Tuesday with a re? quisition on Governor Scott for the delivery of Robert Kernaghan, accused of the murder of Al? bert 0. The Augusta papers of yesterday contain full par? ticulars of thc fatal shooting anray between Messrs. John P. Foster, a butcher, and W. H. Mc? From the testimony given before thc Jury or In? quest, lt appears that between 8 and 0 o'clock Wednesday morning, Foster and McDonald met In tho lower market, and lind some words concern? ing thc ownership of a cow slaughtered by Foster some three or four weeks sgo, and had been rest? ing in abeyance between the gentlemen since that time. Foster struck McDonald with hts fist twice; McDonald had a stick at first which fell when Foster struck him; Foster picked lt up and struck or struck ot McDonald; the latter then took tho stick from Foster and struck him with tt repeat? edly; Foster then drew hi* pistol and fired three times, and McDonald fell, and expired immedi? ately, throe balls having pierced his abdomen end thigh.
