blood could bavo got there, hp saw something
white under a clod of earth, and nulled lt out.
It was a while pocket handkerchief
literally drenched with gore, und, on
removing it, hu suw a human limul'
sticking out of tho ground. He Imme?
diately ran off to tho Commissary of Police,
and soon returned to thc spot with assistance,
and spades having been procured, a discovery
was mado which struck horror Into thc hearts
of all who beheld lt. Six corpses successively
came to light, as shovelful un er shovelful of |
earth was removed, evidently those of a mo?
th IM- and her live children, all of them literally
cut to pieces, and ono or two of thc bodies
hacked and hewed In a manner too sickening
to- describe. The first body discovered was
thut of a little girl of 7, fearfully hacked about

her abdomen had been laid open, and the In?

quite wann'when they were disinterred, from
which, li'ls Inferred that thc murder must have
been committed at about 3 A. M. on Monday,
and nie-could nut have been entirely extinct
when 'the-' murderers heaped the earth over
them. What ta fairly surprising ls, that In aspot

duty, for instance, ls not more than fifty yards

butchered without .raising an alarm. Again, lt
seems difficult to understand that,, assuming
? the, victims to have arrived at Pantin in tho
course of Siwday evening, they should havo
walked ul)out iiie Holds aft night until they
.were ?et. upon, and murdered. The bodies
havo been taken tb thc Morgue, but, aa I Write,
had not been Identified. Among tho many
conjectures that aro offered Is one to thc effect
that thc murderer myst have been thu father
or some relative anxious to get rid of the en?
cumbrance of a family. But lt is impossible to
admit that any ono man could indict not less
than sixty wounds, then dig a trench mid bury
the bodies of his victims. Thc only ratlontu
supposition ls that they must have gone Into
some lodging-house for refreshment, and
there been drugged and murdered during their
lethargy.
I went down to thc Morgue this afternoon,
and found the gates besieged by upwards ot
two thousand people. Thc bodies were not ex
?ioscd, thc doctors being at that time engaged
n the post-mortem examination. I under?
stand thnt it has been ascertained thnt'thc
mother was enceinte. Tho buttons of the boy's
clothes bear tho address of a Roubaix tailor,
The Public this evening says thc bodies have
been blunt I lied by a hotel-keeper In Paris as
those of a family which arrived in town a
few days ago. The police oro on thc alert,
and it la Bold that two men are arrested on
suspicion. Il would appear that thc victims
. were suddenly assailed, as two of tho chil?
dren's hands held convulsively clasped In their
death-grip a piece of bread and butter and a
plecq of cold sausage. Thc wounds of two of
the hoys lead to thc Impression that they had
made a stout tight of lt. Public excitement on
the subject is Intense.
THE VICTIMA IDENTIFIED.
A later dispatch from the same correspondent
says:
Tho ? Victims have been Identified. Their
name waa, Klnck, and they Uvcd at Roubaix.
Besldes-thcmsclves, thc family consisted of a
father and an elder son by a former marriago,
and lt ls Inferred that It ls they who perpetra?
ted tho crime. Tho Hincks were well o?r; they
owned three houses at Roubaix, and tho father
and the eldest son drove . a lucrative business
as brush manufacturers. The husband, want?
ing to extend his business, wished his wife and
tho younger children to remove to Alsace,
where he had another house, so as to convert
the whole of his establishment at Roubaix Into
a manufactory. He and his eldest son left Rou?
baix for Paris, and the wife was ordered to Join
tnein with tho remainder of tho children. She
did so, and It seems that thc oldest son and thc
mother and five other children all left Paris

alighted first, took tho mother and two of thc
children with him, tho other three children re?

day there was but little done In the absence of the
