The Comden Journal says: "A negro man named Ned Robinson was shot In Tho log by Mr. Ario Nilen, at lils residence, a few miles above Camden on Monday last. Im? mediately after the act Mr. N. came to Cam? den, surrendered himself to thc authorities, nnd waa released on ball. Medical aid was called in as soon os possible, when amputation woo found to be necessary, and in a few hours after the operation thc man died. On Tuesday ?jury was summoned by Magistrate Suther? land, and an Inquest held over thc body. Thc verdict rendered by the jury was, in substance, that the deceased came to hit- death from a gun? shot wound inflicted upon him by Mr. Niles. After which Mr. Niles was arrested and "con? fined in Joli. COLUMBUS, October l.-COTTON_During Sep? tember or last year Columbus received 3797 Dales, and at the close ol the month bad a stock of 2657 bales. Tho past month 7310 hnlcnftavc been received and the stock ls now 2379. Last year thc river was navigable, lt has been too low for boats to run this season, and it ts estimated there arc 6000 to 8000 bales between herc and Eufaula to bc brought to this point. Last Friday and Sat? urday good rains tell. For several days after the atmosph?re was very cold. Nights still continuo cool. Days rather warm In sun. Thc season has been most propitious f?r picking cotton. Though nearly all thc bolls are opened, and gathering may be finished in six or eight weeks, columbus most probably will receive at least 65,000 bales against 48,5oo last year. .
