The Barnwell Journal says: "We learn that two colored women on Mr. Richardson's plan? tation, near Allendale, a few days ago ran s race in picking cotton on a bet of five dollars. At the close of the dey one had picked four hundred pounds and the other loor hundred and one and a half pounds. This is certainly the best piefang we have ever heard of with eoe exception. September 16.-COTTON-At the close of last week's opera'ions the market-was quiet and firm, at prices on stasis of 31,'ic for Liverpool middling, witb a tendency, however, towards a de? cline-wh'ch the present week's operation has fully revealed-the cause of which must be looked tor be yond the fixed relations ol demand and supply. On Friday the market closed quiet, sellers yield lng to the views ot buyers, and prices exhibiting a marked decline. Sales were effect? d at 3U)ic for middling. Saturday's operations were limited to small lotd. and the market closed with a still further decline of l3c on all grades.
