Also, to furnish clothing to sixty of thc in?
motos-many of whom aro nearly naked.

hu regarded both the cpitbot and the mau who

board to say whether or not ho was correct in
sayiug that Howard had used tho language he
atltibutcd to him.
A vote was taken, which sustained Wall;
whoroupon Howard left thc room.
It is slated that Howard, who has huon fur?
nishing tho Almshouso with wood, was very
indignant because ol thc passage of tho rcso-~
lution to advertise for proposals to tm nish
fuel, and let his anger get tho bolter of bim.
But wc aro informed that ou several occasions
hu has boon not only rude, but insulting to
female applicants at tho Almshouse for relief.

THAT NICOLSON PAVEMENT. - There has
been much discussion about tho Nicolson
pavement, and also sorcral measurements to
asccrtaiu bow mitch of tho etroots it will bc
necessary to pavo; but nothing definito was as?
certained until yesterday, when thc matter
was pnt in tho hands of tho City Engineer.
Hts report shows that tho total number of
square yards to bu paved is three i h o usn nd ono
hundred and eighty-two, which, at a cost of
two dollars and so ven ty-fi vo cents per square
yard, would amount lo 18503.- It is claimed
that as tho pavement will also bo of benefit to
thoso having business in tho county build?
ings, tho county should pav its aharo of tho ex?
pense, which is estimated to bo ?4493 fur laying
ono thousand six hundred und sixty-four of
the throo thousand ono hundred and eighty
two yards necessary to be laid.
It is thought that tho County Commission
ora will not consent to pay anything, but the
committee will, it is believed, report in favor
of having the pavement laid anyhow.
