came In yesterday from s atilla river, and sold at $175

Columbus Market.
COLUMBUS, September 10 -The firtt pin of the
week to Wednesday ?aw an active market iu Colum?
bus. All the co ion (bat was offered was taken im?
mediately by factors and local operators on the baals
of 31c for middlings, and at on e abipped. On Wed
ne?day. however, currency, owing to the rapid arriv
als and sales ot cotton, which was not anticipated at
60 early a day, was well nigh exhausted, and salee
were effected at ?o lower than would have been done
had banking factfltiea been adapted to the business.
Exchange was abundant but farmers wanted cur?
rency, which the banks did not have. In addition.
New 'Jork and Liverpool declined, and nearly every
order waa cancelled. Thursday saw tbe same state
of affair?, only in a worse form. Few were operat?
ing, because only ?few could command currency. A
large amount or cotton has been stored, which, had
circu'ristances been changed, would have been sold.
Uno? these conditions even, speculation would have
been larger bad there existed confidence in stability
of the ? ew York market.

tbe same causes. Planters mostly refuse to accept
