In addition to this, having started a certain dis? tance, abovo tho aqueduct at Putuoy, thoy ex? pected to row only au equal d(stano3 abovo the ship at Mortlake; but having rowod that dis? tance, and not reaching tho j uti gc, they thought that tho placing of tho flag-boat bad boen for? gotten. It has drawn crowded bouses, and is likely to do so as long as it is assailed by critics and newspaper correspondants on the score of its immorality. Ho noticed as a curious fact that whoa the audience was Amt seated hardly a tonth part wero women, but a little later they came in tho usual numbers. Tho presont in the dullest of the dull London season, and fashionable houses could not ordinarily bo oxpoctod, but the dress circle was full, aud most of the private boxas were occupied. Tho drama is full of sharp and pointed dialogue, and, in delineation of charoo ter, it is admirable. At first, ita performance evoked an occasional hiss; bub long boforo tho ond was reached, tho sympathies of tho audience wdro won, and it procoodod to a triumphant conclusion. CHARLESTON. MONDAY HOUSING, SEPT. 6, 1869. Anti-Radicalism, In this State the Bo-oalled "OonBorvallve ?Republican movement" is a failure. The Radicals vow that they oannot be moro conservative than they are, and the Demo? crats are resolved not to be dabbed Repub? licans. There will then be, in the eleotions of 1870, only two parties in the State-the Radical party and the Anti-Radical party. This A a ti- Rad teal party has already a power? ful publio sentiment in its favor. AU honest men, who sse the oorruption and ignorance, whioh now run riot, know that another two years of Radios! asoendanoy would go far to ruin the State. They have no political feeling to gratify, and no political interest I to serve. What they desire ia au honest and able executive, a truly representative legislature, and a pure and learned judici? ary, together with an eoonomioal adminis? tration and, its consequence, low taxation. This is their ono aim and purpose, and they plaoo themselves accordingly upon the broad platform of Aati-Radioalism-a platform upon whioh every respectable citizen may stand without doing violenoe to his feel? ings Or renouncing a Bingle pol?tica! prin? ciple. Anti-Radioalism in South Carolina is, in truth, the outward sign of the inward de? termination of our people to obtain a State government under whioh the people may be secure in the enjoyment of their property, and all classes be encouraged to labor stead? ily for their own and the common good. It has no political leader, no political plat? form; but upon the most essential points there is little if any differenoe of opinion. The "peace we ssek and the reforms we "need," we expeot to obtain by peaceful ago noie s alone. Our victory is to be won by the ballot, and we go into the fight re? cognizing accomplished facts, and meeting our opponent? upon the solid ground of hon? esty against dishonesty, economy against ex? travagance,' intelligence against ignoranoe, and low taxation against high taxation. We still believe that the large maj ority of our colored population are not fit to be entrust ed with the suffrage; but we do not propose to interfere with the privilege which the 1 law gives them. As the law stands, the colored people have the right to vote, and that legal right we reoognize os an, abso? lute faot. jj Ia this, way the question* whioh enter into national contests will not affect oar. State eleotions. The straggle with aa is for a pare sad capable government, instead of one whioh is rotten to the eora. And it is most important that the recruits who swell our ranks should find nothing in our party nome,'as they wilt find nothing hi oar party p r i no 1 pies, t?*tnr o w them b&ok Into the embraces of Radicalism. " For .thia reason, .the plain broad phrase-A H TI-RA DIO ALIS at - is, to our mind, far better than "Liberal "Demooraey," whioh the Republicans' will not touch, or the "Conservative Republi? canism" whioh would stick ia the throat of every Democrat in the fl-ato. The Port Royal un I lr o ad. Tai Barnwell Sentinel, in speaking of the satisfaction caused by the feeling that the Port Royal Railroad will soon be built, says: "Aseri?os damper to that feeling, "however, would ba the conviction, if we "entertained it, that the result would be ?Injuri?os to oar time-honored metropolis, "Charle g to a; and we oaa readily sympa? thize with any and all who entertain fears "that that famous city may suffer de tri "meat by this pr any other enterprise. Another maritime Riobmond is ia tho field. The Georgetown Times says that tho old Georgetown Railroad Company has been reorganixed under tho name of "The George? town and Lanoaster Railroad Company," wbloh company proposes to build a railroad from Georgetown, through Williamsburg, Clarendon, Sumter and Kershaw, to some point on the northeast line of Lanoaster County. Heavy subscriptions of land have been promised, and theoompany, having its depot immediately upon the water, will there ereot wharves and warehouses for the accommodation of freight. The intention is to put on a line of steamships to New York, in order that dlspatoh may be given to goods and produce. Great stress is laid upon the circumstance that at Georgetown there will be no oharge for shipping, haul? ing or drayage, there being no break in the line of transportation. We kno w at present no more of tho in? tentions of the projectors of the George? town and Lanoaster Railroad than may be gathered from the article on the subj cot, published in the Times. We are inclined", however, to Buspeot, that the true objective point of the new line is Gourdin's Station on the Northeastern Railroad, where il would oonneot with the proposed South Carolina Central Railroad, whioh is to ruc from Gourdin's to Charlotte. In this wa) the Georgetown and L-mousier Railroad would be an extension of the South Caro? lina Central Railroad, and freights coule bo sont direct to Georgetown, insten'i o coming over the Northeastern Railroad t< Charleston. This may not be the aim o tho Georgetown Railroad, but we can hard ly believe that it would be proposed serious ly to build two parallel railroads from thi Northeastern Railroad to Charlotte, whlol would be the oase if the Georgetown Rail road were to be built according to the pro gramme of the Times. One of the twi schemes would be necessarily abandoned and we do not suppose that the South Caro lina Central Railroad, whloh hopes to begli work before long, would be the first to glv way. Presentment of the Grand Jury. THE presentment of the grand j ur of the United States Court is print ed this morning. The jury ask froi CVbgress an appropriation of mone for the building of a suitable Unite States Courthouse and Poetoffioe at Green ville. This will, we hope, reoelve due n tention. The jury express the hope thi all disfranchisement of our citizens wi soon be removed, and request "those gei "tlemen who have sought and have undei "taken the honorable and responsible effit "of representing the people of the State i "the Congress of the United States to Ul "every honest means" to accomplish th ead. This is wise and judicious; but yet little help need the grand jury expect fro H?ge when they add that "they fervent "hope that no personal influenae or pan "exigence will ever enable any . ambitioi "aspirant to take a seat in the Legislatur "or tn Congres; to whioh he has not bet "elected by a majority of the legal voters Thia cap fit?
