SATURDAY MORNING, AUG ?BT 21. 1860.
Tbe Futon of thc Bosnia.
The South has a more brilliant prospect
before her tban any other aeotion of these
United States, and the faot is mw begin?
ning to be seen and acknowledged.
The wealth and power of any extensive 1
section of oouniry munt spring from the
soil, whioa is primarily the souroe of all
prosperity. A nation's wealth consista in
its power of production, and the amount ot
its cont nba Liona io the wants of the balance
of the world England is an exoeption to
this rule, her great wealth being accounted
for by the fact that she eats as the broker fur
the world, with London as the universal
exchange. Her wealth is the accumulation
oi centuries; every nation in the world bas
become indebted to her, and she to none
The prosperity of a oouniry, as a rule, may
be measured by the proportion of its pro
ducts to its population, aud it may, there?
fore, be unhesitatingly asserted that during
1869 the twelve ooiton Stales of this ooun?
iry will show more true prosperity than
any ot h or acntion of the world I
We have every Teas on to antioipate ? crop
of about 8 000 000 bates conon, whiob
valued al $108 per bale (aay 455 lbs. at 25
cents) will give $324,000,000; also a corn
crop of 285 000,000 bushels, valued at
$230,000,000; and me sugar, wheat, to
bacon, and other crops, will yield $150,
000,000 more, g'ving in all a product of not
less than $704 OOO OOO, which with.a pop;,
ulatlon of not. ever 11,000,000 will show an
average of $64 per head, wbioh largely ex
oeede that of th? Northern and Western
8tates. This Bia te of South Carolina, al?
though under debasing negro ral?, und hav?
ing her life blood sucked by taxation, will
this year yield products worth $50.000,000
which, with her population oi over
670.000. will sbosv an average of $74 62 per
head. Tuia average, as before said, is the
correct gauge by which to ascertain a coun?
try's prosperity. The value of real estate
is no true test of a nation's prosperity, es
it may be influenced by a variety of causes
unconnected with solid progress. An in
fl tied currency will give real estate a high
but a fictitious market value; sud this, in?
stead of being an evidenoe of national prce
pority, is an evidence of national weakness,
as was shown at the North about the dose
of the late war.
The lands of the South offer as fine in?
ducements for investment as those of tho
West, and they will most assuredly BOOS
in cr cane greatly in value. In any pori ion
of the South fine lands under cultivation
can be bought at from $5 to $9 per aore,
whioh in a few years will be worth five
times the purchase money. Labor will soon
become plentiful, and ere. another year
elapses Chinese will be st work in every
conon Slate, superseding the Africans
The elimata ie exceedingly salubrious, and
offers no hindrance whatever to the manual
labor of the wblte man, aa le proved by the
faot that there are now not leas than 200,
OOO whites cultivating o-itton with their
own bands. And another great advantage
of the Souih is its educated and refined
population The maia objection to the
Wm is, that, like all new countries, it has
no soolety and little culture, and it will be
many years before it esn have any wbioh
will compare to that sf the Southorn

With all tbe*a advantages it will not be
long before tbe South again rules this coun?
try; for it oontains money and biain power,
wbioh all the Radioals of the universe can?
