agreement, and the friends of Mr. Blank had
Mr. H. arrested yesterday upon the following

Tbe following extract from a private letter,
which we have received from a reponsible

"At the time of the evacuation of the little
Town of Jacksonville, Florida, by the Con?

part of 1861 or the early' part of 1862,1 vas

by far a more decant man than Bowen. Wood?

gentleman. I have giveu you this little item

anytime to substantiate what I nave written,

HABEAS Coaroa.-Yesterday st 12 M., Charlie
Harrison alias Jacobs, negro, who. li will be
recollected, shot and killed a colored man near
the Four-mile House on Sunday morning last,
was bi ouch t before Recorder Pringle upon a
wilt of habeas corpus. The prisoner's counsel,
Mr, G. R. Walker, argued Tor bis release on
bail, etatiog that he bad committed the deed
nuder great provocation, having ascertained
that the deceased and his wife were criminally
intimate.
The Recorder said that (bera was no proof
before him that snob, waa the cass; only some
witnesses had testified that they suspected
that tbe parties were too intimate.
Mr. Walker stated that he bsd witnesses
who could prove the adultery. After some dis?
cussion, it was agreed to postpone a further
bearing of the oasa until Saturday, in order
that Mr. W. could hare time to procure his
witnesses._

brick at Mr. Habenicht's hodse and struck his
daughter.
Isaac Knight, negro, was arrested upon the
charge of throwing the brick, and when before
the Mayor yesterday stated that be lived next
door to ?ir. H.'s noose, and on corning borne.
Wednesday afternoon found a mulatto fellow
named Gi Hi ard under bis (Knight's) wife's bed.
Gilkard, as soon ss be saw Kuiglit, ran, and
Knight commenced slinging bricks at him. one
of wu.cb. went thrown, the window of Mr.
H. s boose and injured his daughter.
Knight was discharged, and GUliard waa
fined $10 for trespass.
A NEGRO DTVOBCXS Hiareixr.-Yesterday, a
colored woman, named Sarah Murrell, appeared
before Justice Mackey snd requested him to
hare her hnabaod arrested stating that he bad
left her about thr^o months ago, saving that
he intended to get a divorce, bnt every few
days be came back and beat her. Sbeaiso

from which we extract the following:

Yesterday the case of Messrs. Bart A Wirt h
who. on Wednesday morning, were flood $50
by the Mayor tor having liquor on their
premises without a license, was heard before

A LOVING WOMAW.-Several months ago,
Julia Calhoun, a rather good looking mulatto
girl, consented to be the wife of a line looking
mulatto named James Clark, and aa such lived
with bim up to night before last, when bo

that she mast recognize, the said woman as
bis wire, and that if she, Ju'ia, raised any foss
or made thcieast opposition, he would starve
her, and if necessary beat her to death. Jolis
