The Orang?burg News says : ' For more than
a week past we have been having a superabun?
dance of rain; too much for the good of our
farmers. Day before > esterday, however, the

A coroner's inquest, in the case of M?BS Mary
Lard, has reud red a verdict that the deceased

opiate, and exonerated from all blame all par?

The following sales took olaco at Blackville
on salts-day : Two bundled seres of land, be?
longing to J. H. Harley, was sold for $120, and
purchased by R. C. Harley. One house and lot
in the town of Bamberg, known as the property
of J. G. Grimes, was purchased by Joseph T.
Skinner, for $100. A bait lot in Aiken, 81 by
105 foot, sold as the property of E. H. A. Oak?
ley, was purchased by G. Steadman, for the
sum of $26. Fred. J. Smith, assignee of J. J.
Brabham, sold 224 acres of land, belonging to
C. H. Bice and others, for $250, purchased by
them of C. B. Bruister.

The Banner says : "An unusually large
crowd, composed mostly ol negroes, assembled
iu this village on Monday, lhere is good rea?
son for thc belief thal special efforts had been
made by certain parties to secure this result.

the cotton fields, the plantera were very anxi
ious that the opportunity should be improved
for the benefit of the growing crop. The reply
made by the negroes generally was that 'they
wore obliged to go to the Courthouse to see
about matters.' As en evidence cf concerted
action, the fact may be stated that as many as
sixty in a body passed thu residenco of a citi?
zen on the outskirts of the village, marching
ifi' double filo, under the command of a leader
a good many. < f whom were aimed with guns.
Their expectat ion was, as bas been ascertained,
that arms would be given out to them, and that
they would bo organizad as companies upon
the occurrence ol certain contingencies. Se

confirm expectations. A more quiet or orderly
crowd has never b :on seen in this village. At

the marshal to .keep tho sidewalks cleared.

which might have arisen from the insolence of
the negroes, they having, on pr?tions occa?

into thc broad street in order to walk through
the village."

thereby damaging the yield to a great extent. This
applies mostly to the upland crops, as we learn that
