THE CINCINNATI SOUTHERN RAILROAD.-The
Anderdon Intelligencer, m regard to the adop?
tion .of Chattanooga a* the terminus of this
railroad, says : "Within the last week assur?

nessee line in the direction of Knoxville, and
that tho Knoxville and Kentucky Road will
connect with Louisville in eighteen or twenty

THE SCHTIETZKNFEST.-lt is now definitely
ae'.tled, that the shooting fest previously spok

on the 80th instant. The prises have been
divided into two classes-fifteen for the aolive
members, and five for the passive members
twenty in all to be shot for. A committee of
arrangements has been appointed on the part

DEATH OF A WELL KNOWN CITIZEN OF COLUM?
BIA.-The Phoenix announces the death on the
11th instant ot Mr. Wm. R. Huntt. who was 'or
many years employed as clerk in the office of
the Seoretaty of State, and by his admirable
business qualities so recommended himself to
the Legislature of Booth Carolina that he was
elected first to the office of Surveyor-General,
and afterwards to that of Secretary of State.
Daring the poriod of fifteen years ia which he
waa engaged in the State Department, he also
filled the post of Deputy Comptroller-General.
Mr. Hunt had acquired in his term of service a
large and varied experience. He died a victim
to consumption, at the age of thirty-five.

judges, jarymen, lawyers and others who most
do congregate in the public buildings io the
vicinity ot Broad and Meeting streets, have
been shocked by the noise made bj passing

impunity-having the liviug examples of their

Another Rvdical view of tho matter is con?
tained iii the following paragraph:
The only possible lino of ariangemcnt is now
dearly indicated. The Mayor declares him?
self ready to make any sacrifice of personal
feeling, and to give assurance of a fair distri?
bution of patronage among his friends and his
opponents alike, within the lines of the Repub?
lican party. Further than this ho says that
bis own self respect and the deference due tbs
feelings of those who have stood by him will
not permit him to go. And, preliminary to
any mutual arrangement, he insists on the
withdrawal of all obnoxious legislation. The
Mayor is thoroughly convinced that, ho is
right. He has taken his position deliberately
and will hold it. There is no basis ot settle?
ment but this for this summer.
This being the fad, the Council will proceed
to business when a dtstribnsion of the patron?
age is agreed upon on this basis, or when
time brings to the Mayor a working majority.
These are the simple alternatives. We believe
that a mutual arrangement will be effected in
a few days. If not there is a more distant al?
ternative in an appeal to the courts or to the
Legislature. But no special session will ba
convened for the purpose. So that this remedy
is far away.

A NOTABLE WEDDIVO.-The New York Ex?
press of last Tuesday evening says :
This afternoon, at 1 o'clock, a wedding of pe?
culiar interest was celebrated at Calvary
Church. The parties united were Miss Clem?
ent Willett, grand-daughter of Colonel Willett,
noted as the defender of Fort Stanwix during
the Revolutionary war, and* Dr. Lewis C. Ha?
sel!, of Charleston, 8. C., a member of one of
the first families in the Palmetto State. Rev.
Dr. Morgan officiated. The organist. Hr. Mo
senthal, played selections from Beethoven,
Wehli, and the Tannhauser Marobee while
the audience were waiting, and the Wedding
maren as the bridal pair were leaving the
ohm ch. The bride was elaborately dressed in
satin, trimmed with point lace, with a beauti?
ful veil, wreath and bouquet. At the conclu?
sion of the oeremony a reception was held at
the bride's residence in Grameroy Park, which
was largely attended. Among other persona
present, were James W. Gerard, Esq., the
well known lawyer and philanthropist. Miss

The Governor bas pardoned Thomas Gra?
ham, who was sentenced to bo hung on the
30th of April last, but was respited for tho
purpose of procuring important testimony,
not adduced at the trial.
Charles D. Gehrals was convicted at the
Orangcburg Court of assault and battery, with
intent to kill, and fined $500. Tho Goverisor
has remitted tho penalty, on the groand ot
violent provocation in the most infamous abuse
of tho defendant and his family.
The Governor has declined to further in?
terfere in the case of Cyrus Coachman, con?
victed of the murder of Robort P. Suggs, near
Florence, on the 10th of January last. He will
therefore bo executed on Friday, the 18th
instant.
REPORTERS' CnuMBg.-Judge Orr granted
two divorces, at the lato term of the Greenville
Court, on tho petition of diatic?sed females; in
a case where tho husband petitioned, the mat?
ter was reserved for further consideration.
A grain reaper has been introduced into
Laurons County by Mr. Allen Dial. As a nov?
elty it attracted a crowd.
Colonel John Cuningham has opened a law

The committee who have undertaken to ar?
range the preliminaries for raising the $10,000
to be contributed by the citizens to the theatre
project, will probably commence their 'collec?
tion tour to-day. We sincerely hope they may
meet with abundtnt success. We must have a
theatre, and this is our best chance.
The velocipede race on tho plank road, in
Elizabeth-street, on Saturday afternoon, was
highly exciting and fall of humor. Mr. Chap?n
was the winner of the "soda water-and oakes."
There was river immersion by the Rev. J.
Legare, at the foot of Tradd-street, yesterday.
Eleven males and thirty-five females, all color?
ed, were baptised.
A child accidentally fell into the pond at the
foot of Broad-street, on Friday last, and was
resoued from drowning by a passer by.
There is a great scarcity (says au observing
gentleman) of ants this season and a super?
abundance of flies. What does this mean ?
The prospeot of a meeting of Council ia now

Deer are very numerous now in the suburbs.
Several fine runs have been made lately.
There has been no little shaking of official
bones in the past few days in anticipation of
the garrote whioh report says Council will
soon apply.
Tho commencement exercises of the Baker
Theological Institute, colored, takes place at
the Centenary M. E. Church this evening afc
eight o'clock.
Everybody is on the qui vive tor the yacht
race whioh is proposed for the 28th inawant.
In the hands of an energetic committee we are
satisfied that the contest might be made a
great success.
The picnic of the Tarnverein takes place to?
day at the Platz.
