REPORTERS' CRUMBS.-Flaming posters went
up yesterday in Meeting-street, depicting'the
startling scenes to be enacted in the mam?
moth New Orleans Circus, whioh arrives on
the 23d instant.
The Soengerbund give a picnic on the 16th
instant at Mount Pleasant.
There are eighty-five prisoners in jail
three for arson, one for manslaughter, one for
infanticide, and the rest for larcony. .
There will be a transfer of prisoners to Wil?
liamsburg to-day, to stand trial at the June
term of court.
Walhalla now boasts of a brass band, and ex?
pects to have a fine company soon.
The city police were on an inspecting tour
yesterday, and will report all premises not in
good sanitary condition.
It gave us a ohill yesterday to examine a
patent refrigerator on exhibition at Neufville io
Hannaaa's, No, 9 Broad-street.
The present spell of bot weather has caused
the city flora to bloom luxuriantly, and the
burnt district has "blossomed like the rose,"
though without the same perfume.
Mr. Wingate, of Hook and Ladder, No. 1,
who was injured on Sunday night, is recover?
ing, and will soon be out.
There are, constables serving magistrates
writs, in this city, who cannot read or write.
How do they manage to endorse their return

James Gibbes, of Columbia, 8. C., and one of
the directors of the Columbia and Augusta
Railroad, we learn that the trains of this ro-d
will enter the city on next Friday or Saturday.
The intersection of the Colombia and Augusta
with the South Carolina Railroad at tho turn?
table on tho line of the latter road, one mile
east of the Savannah River, as provided for in
the reoent contract between the parties, will
take plaoe on one of the two days above nam?
ed, and the trains of the former road will como
immediately into the city instead of stopping
at Orangeville, as at present. This intorseo

Augusta Constitutionalist; says : "We under?
stand that Wilder, the negro postmaster of
Columbia, bas finally consluded that bis aspi?
rations have boen far above his abilities, and
has actually importuned tir.. Samuel Leaphart,
who formerly held the position of chief clerk
in the office (under Mr. J. C. Jaouey, succeeded
by Wilder) to relieve him of his burden,.aff tee?

position which Mr. Leapbarb's liberality may
see proper to allow him. Mr. L., in accordance
with the express ? wishes of the citizens, had
concluded to accept the proffered ofter of
Wilder, when the latter found a little bitch in
