other counties will be printed as we receive
them, and within a week from this time our
readers will have had before them the views
of oar most experienced farmers and plant?

. The Orangeburg Ne ws is indignant at the
action of the ?State Board af Equalization,
in'raising the valuation of real property in
?raijj'sb?rg;"from $1,444,O60: to'$4,882,?07.
It says t?iat the lands in the .county were
valued, ia the assessment made by the
cou a ty bo ard, at their full market value,
and-that the increased valuation of the real
property in the county is "disproportionate,
"unequal and unjust." We learn from the
same source thai a meeting of ?he taxpay?
ers was te be held on Monday last to con
aider the action of the State board, and the
Orangeburg News suggests that if the tax
must be paid it may be done under protest,
and the whole matter tested in the courts
- Under th a ( ax law of 1868, the State Board
of Equ dilation have full power to incroase
or reduce the valuation of the real property'
in the State. ' Ttiere is no limit to their au?
thority, and we do not see that any relief
oan be obtained from the courts. There is,
indeed, but one way of esoaping from the
enormous taxation which now oppresses
the State, As long as the Rid ic al s remain
in power, there will be fraud, extravagance
and. waste in administering our fiscal affairs.

has been the great pamcaa dreamed of by
the lancashire operativas for the evils of
short time and low wages ever einctj (he

effjrt of the Preston mill owners and mau
. ufaoturers to reduce wages has revived it,
until it has spread through all of east and
north lancashire. About one hundred
spinners and winders' families had left one 1

straggle bogan. The last mail tells us of
eight families more following them, and an
agent of American manufacturers in that
country seeking workmen was sent for by
the operatives to enlighten them and make
arrangements for a greater exodus. At
another town, Blackburn, subscriptions are
being collected to forward one thousanl
power loom weavers, who wish to come, and

made, so os to enable others to follow them.
The Spinners' Association there have voted
five hundred pounds sterling from their
muds, and doubled the weekly assessment,
to equip members wishing to emigrate lo

This shows what is the condition of the
cotton trade in E igland, which is already
sending to oar shores unusual numbers of
sober and thrifty workmen. A similar
exodus may be anticipated in the iron,
wootton and other trades; and the South, by
properly directed efforts, can easily secure
ita share of this valuable immigration, and
so enter upon Its manufacturing oaree* with
unexpected advantages.
This feature of the labor question de
mands-the immediate and serious attention
of all persons in the South who are inter?
ested ia the encouragement and extension
of Southern manufactures.
