We cabled to Liverpool to ascertain the correct
figures of the amount of cotton afloat, and have
ai answer this morning. The amount afloat
is 603.000 bales, and not 502 000 bates, as
given by the Associate J Press report It will
be noticed that there is now a deficiency in the
visible supply of71,688bake, SB compared with 1868.
The reports about the growing crops received by j
mail (bis week ccntmue unfavorable There ha8bean
too much rata, and the temperature ia remarkably
low for Ul? season. For future delivery there has
been but tittle done. 500 low middling sold tor Joly
delivery at 27*ia9?Xo. and 160 middling November
and Tecember delivery, on private t rms. Large
orders to buy low middling delivered in November
and December at 33c have been received, and much
would be taken at 24c, but, owing to the backward
appearance of the crop so lar, planters are not dis?
posed to sell at present ,_
