Alter the regalar indoor exercises, and the singing of the "Song of the Pilgrim? age," the children will assemble on the mall of the church and partake of a feast. Friends of the school, and teachers and superintendents of other schools, are invited to be present. It will be an exceedingly interesting occasion. THE OFFAL DEPOSITS. -We are requested to remind whom it may concern that there is a .decree of perpetual injunction by the Court of .Chancery, forbidding the City Council, its em? ployees and servants, from highest to lowest, to deposit the scavenger's collections OJ the west part of Broad-street, or on Lynch-street, or around or in the pondbeiween Rutledge and Lynch streets. Wood, of Boston, Mass., was married on the 23th ultimo, at Beaufort, by the Ber. Arthur Waddell, a colored preacher, to Susan Dimer,, a colored girl. Wood, we understand, is from a respectable family, and held a commission in a Matsachusettsregiment, known as the Bay Sta'4 Cadets, daring the late war. His gene? ral appearance is that of a gentleman. Tbe evening after their marriage Wood and Susan promenaded Bay-street in company with another colored girl, and, on Monday morning, to k their departure for St. Helena Island, where Wood has a store on one of the planta? tions of his ancle, Mr George Frost, a well known importer of silks in Boston, Mass. Su? san is a native of Beaufort, and was owned be? fore and daring the war by a plantar on the coast._ Tn WASHINGTON LIGHT INFANTRY FAIR. The Hibernian Hall will to-day be the scene of more preparation for the Washington light Infantry Fair, which ope ne on Moodiy night Mr. John H. De vere ox will be in active super? intendence, and all the junior managers are particularly requested to be present during the day. The erection of the tables will be begun this morning. Four of them will be circular in shape after the -style of the too well known Sibley tent, and the other three will be rectan? gular. These tables will be draped and deco? rated in a novel and attractive manner. Among the interesting features ot* the Fair will bea hai-dsomely lithographed card containing the names of the members of the Washington Liaht Infantry who dmd daring the war, to ?ether with appropriate emblems and orna? mento. Copies of this souvenir of the never to-be forgotten dead wul be for sale at the Fair. REPORT?ES' CRUMBS_Th 3 quarantine law goea into effect to-day. A number of young lawyers met yesterday for the purpose of establishing a moot court. Tbe Winyahs were compelled to lie over night before last, inconsequence of the steamer befog detained. They left iast evening. There will be river immersion by the R?T. C. Small, of the Calvary Baptist Church, colored, to-morrow, at the foot of Council street, at half-past twelve o'clock. Contributions to the Volksfest continue to pour into Yon San ton's, Bang-street. They are costly, varied and handsome. The camp-meeting of the colored Methodist Church begins to-day at Goose Creek. THE BBOOELIM LIFE INSUBANCE COMPANY. Mr. James G. Holmes, Jr., of this city, ie the agent of this well established and highly popu? lar company, which ' now holde a prominent place in the front rank of the progressive Ule insurance institutions of the country. The Brooklyn was the first company to sap ply the defect in life insurance, by giving an equitable payment in cash for every relin? quished policy-certainly a great innovation, that ongbt to have been adopted long ago. The credit of its adoption by the Brooklyn is, in no wise, diminished by the tact that the ac? cumulated assets of the company have not been swollen to their present figures to any appre? ciable extent by illegitimate profits from con? fiscated payments of policy holders. This morning the Palmetto Steam Fire Engine Company will take their departure, via the South Carolina Railroad, for Augusta, where they will remain four or five honra, and thence for Atlanta, to join in the general parade there. They will be escorted to the depot by the Stonewalls, who send a delegation to repre? sent, with those of other, companies, the de? partment; of this city, whose Chief, M. H. Nathan, Esq., and Chairman of the Board of Firem asters, G. Lamb Buist, Esq., will accom? pany them. Batter._ TBS SENTINEL GUARDING THE DOST.-We were mach pleased yesterday by the inspection of a design for the monument to the Confede? rate dead of the Washington Light. Infantry. It is a vol un teer desiga to be offered by oar fellow* townsman, John H. Devereux. He bas seised noon that poetic thought of the gifted poet priest. Rev. A. J. Byan, of "The Sentinel Guarding the Dost"-one of Ute best poems from his Anent pen. The idea is expressed by the architect as follows : Upon a square platform of stone, some forty feet across, and approach? ed by a flight of steps from each Bide, he has raised a temple some fifty two feet high, and of j octagonal form. The corners of the square aro reiterad by /our pal mat to treen, ta ha of natural size, sod enclosed in a balaetered square, with architectural enrichments sur? rounding and anpporing the tree. The temple will be a magniflcient structure in itself, being tn octagon of unequal sides, with disengaged soturnos projecting from the lesser fides, and raised to a height of twenty feet to the entab? lature. On th 3 inner 'columns is raised a 3ome fifteen feet in height, and surmounted by an equestrian statue of General Pettigrew, t distinguished member of the corps, who was killed in the war. The structure thus raised form * a peno tralia, in which is placed a reliquary on a sarcophagus of marble, in which the ashes of the martyred dead are to be deposited. In each of the projections or wings formed by the disengaged column j is placed a sentinel in the uniform of the Wash? ington Light Infantry guard>ng the dust of the dead. Over the sentinel, and surmounting the wings, are allegorical figures representing Fame, History, Fidelity and Hope. On the ceiling of the dome, which is divided into thirty panels, are inscribed the names of the members of the corps, a panel beim; dedicated to each battle in which the corps was engaged. The structure is to be of the Corinthian order of architecture, and is to b9 built of bronze. We trust that the drawing will be completed in time for the fair. BUSINESS NOTICES.
