PATAPSCO GUANO.
Jotter from .jamos Pagart,
CHESTER, SOUTH CAR LINA, January 0, W6fr.
Dear ^ir-I bavo just received a communication
from Geo. W. Graflllu. J:sq.. Treasursr of Patapsco
Guano Comnany. requesting my opinion or tho "PA
?AP-CO,"to be sent direct to you-which I take
pleasure in doirg, as I .inc-r-'-ly behove chat it is I bc
best fertilizer now in uss. Ilnvo tcs'?d its merits
fully, and find those who have ua^d it alougside of ?
other popular fertilizers, do not hesitate to give it
the prcfer.mro; there arc as many kinds in usc hsre
as there aro morchants who deal in il. No two
houses rerommend tho same kind, but durin? tho
last seasonal bad a good opporiunlty of introducing
the "PATAPSCO" G OANO to some oxtcut
I cave to t*n (10) different planters 500 pounus
GUANO to puteacii on one acre of land, and agreed to
lase purt of the product for pay. They all Micecedcd
well. I got nearly 100 per cent, prout from ?he ti-n
acrcs^and tho planters are attuned that they got 50
:o 100 ; er c?nt. more than they could have oxpectod
on the same hind without thc GITANO. 1 ulso sold
small quantities to some twonty or thirty planters,
who tried it on all sorts of. land. Some of them
certify to wonderful icsults, and every one of them
have eugaged to take m6r? for th: coming season. I
expect to sell ten times the amount which was lakcu
la-t season.
I began in 18G7, cud have not heard one man say
it did not over-pay him for hi? outlay. In sonic re?
spect* it li.ust be superior to the Peruvian Guano.
For instance, you can mis the seed with the PATATU?
CO, and tho Peruvian must bo covered before plant?
ing. 1 lie "PATAPSCO" acts at oucouoon thc ?.prouts,
assaou as it rome* from thc toed and makes it start
right ort growing, and prevents tho sickly slago
winch cottou, without the stimulus, has to go
thrungli-you know tbfcr. For two or thrco vroeks
the lotion plant i* in a condition which is so pre?
carious that no planter can i*ay that ho has a certain
stand Ib?k-ve the 'T'ATAToCO" securas a better
and more healthy stand than can be had by tlic ap?
plication Ot any oth;r fertilizer. 1 speak from ex?
periments made for two years. I have planted a lit?
tle cotton lor the purpose ot watching tho result,
and am mri! that rolling the scod in PATAPSCO
GUANO ?nil ? ec uro au carly and 'healthy staud of cot?
ton, which is ?ike getting a goa-', start in any kinu of
nee.
I would recommend 250 to HDD pounds to tho acre
i ma ic 000 pounds Int from one aero by planting 500
pourds of "PATArsco." which made 2C0 pounds tho
year beiore without it, and the season of 18G7 was
belter for totten than 18G3. 'ibo samo field on thc
part not fertilized in vic more In J s j ; than lu 'GS. I
lliinu it v/oul. poy beat, howov^r, for about GOO
pouniU io thu acre. Respectfully,
( Slimed) JAME-? PAG AN.
