Tho Queen occupies tho ficst floor of her new
mansion?-that whioh opens on tho Ruo do
Rivoli, wliile tho King consort and Prince of
Asturias livo in tho rooms looking down upon
tho Rue Sainto Ilonore.
Tho Queen's apartments aro tho most spaci?
ous and gorgeous. The ttrst of the suito of
these magnificent rooms is tho large whito and
gold 8a!on. Tho hangings aro made of crim?
son velvet, and tho furniture wrought out of
rosewood. Then follows a small room with red
silken hanging? and blnok walnut furniture.
Tho boudoir, hung with green velvet und fur?
nished in tho most elegant, style, which is ad?
joining to tho bed-chamber, htis boen transfer?
red into the Queen's Btudy. Tho bed-chamber
is hung with dark red velvet, epaoious and very
beautiful. Tue bed, which tho Queen has
brought with her from Spain, is made of cast
iron, beautifully gilded, and filled with three
mattresses covered with red satin.
Adjoining tho Queen's chamber is another
bedroom, which is occupied by her femme do
chambre. It is filled with a number of clothes
presses and strong boxes, containing the
famous and precious jewels of tho Queon. Her
servants call it tho diamond room. Opposite
tho Queen's apartments are thoso of tho King
consort, consisting of a large and small saloon,
a bed chamber and five other rooms. The
Prince of tho Asturias lives with his father, ?md
occupies a part of theso rooms. Tbs King's
bed, as well aB that of tho Queen, hes been
brought from Spoin. Rut it is very plain,
made of cast iron, without gilding-, andas nar?
row as that of a child. Between the apait
ments of tho KiDg and those of tho Queen,
which communicate with ono another, there is
a eplondtd and very largo dining- hall, with
furnituro of carved oak wood and hangings of
superb damask.
Breakfast is served at eight o'clock, and in?
variably consists of chocolate. At eleven
luncheon is served. Tho King consort and
tho xjueen sit down to it alone. After they
havo eaten, Prince of Asturias and his pre?
ceptor take* tb*'r Pla<-'cs. The littlo princesses,

excellent, and does tho greatest honor to tho
cook who is a Frenchman, and, I believe a
Parisian. Tho favorite wines of tho royal
couple aro those of tho G ii onde and Cham?
pagne.
Tho Queen goes out but very little, except
her daily promenade of at least two hours at
the Bots do Boulogne; she then returns home,
and, as a general thing, spends her evouings
in her room, chatting with her attendants,
reading, writing or receiving visitors. She has
not subscribed to any French journal, but
three or fvur Spanish papers aro mailed to her
indirectly, and she receives, besides, an in?
credible numbor of letters frfnn all countries,
and a great mat.y applications for audiences.
The Queen weu rs very fine and varied toi?
lets. On (sunday, at Saint Germain 1'Auxer
rois, 3ho was dressed in a short but elegant
brown silk cloak, and on the day whon she
visited her mother, she wore a long robe of
violet sati i with white stars.
A great many visitors try to gain access to
her, but, as a matter of course, all of them
are not admitted to her. Her porter has to
open- tho front door daily several hundred
times, and to answer questions such as tho

obese, but very straight and possessed of

the Queen's cavalier than her husband. Even
in tho middle of a painting, his face and form
would attract little or no attention.
Tne precocious embonpoint of the Queen
hos oeen somewhat exaggerated, and, ! j***
that it does not lesson very much her natural
grace and majesty. Her typo is that of &
Bourbon-regular, but somewhat too heavy.
When she descends the broad staircase of tho
