it is so fixed that ihe upper portion of the buildings
can be rented out to families who can live con?

tracted, but nevertheless they -'re modern, and we
learn have been readily routed at fair rates.

HON. GBOBOE S. BRYAN PRESIDING.-The conside

Wm. Martin, of Columbia, will be in town lo-day

ing their church. His congregation, boforo the war,
was one ?f tho wealthiest in Columbia, and thoy had
a flue church building, tho largest In the elly, be?
sides two parsonogos, one for the minister of the

church and boththe parsonages wero destroyed by
feteon tho 18th of February, 1865, at the lime of the
burning ai Columbia by Sherman's army, and the
members of the congrega'ion lost so much property
by tho fire, that from ono of tho wealthiest they sud?
denly became ono of the poorest in the State. With
mach effort there has boon erectod a small chapel,
in which the members of this church now convene
for worship; but this building is totally inadequate
to tho wants of even the present congregation, and
would provo utterly subversive to the good hope of
gathering in a larger-tho place being already too
