Wm. Martin, of Columbia, will be in town to-day
and for several days to come, endeavoring to pro?
cure assistance for his congregation, in rebuild?
ing their cuu?ch. His coatrrega'iop, hefore the war,
was one ef the wealthiest in Coluir.bia, and :k*y had
a fine church building, tho largest in the city, be
sides two parsonages, ono for the minister of the
congregition, and one for the presiding elder. The
church and boththe parsonages were destroyed by
fire on the 18th of February. 1865, at the lime of the
burning ot Columbia hy Sherman's army, and thc

by the fire, that from one of thc wcalilies: they sud?
denly became ono of the poorest in tho Mate. With
mnch effort there has been erected a smaU chapel,
in which thc meinberi of this church now convene
for worship; but this building is totally inadequate
