SUDDENDE\TH.-The Pbcemx announces Ibo
sudden death of a young, tileuted and universally
admired lady, formerly a resident of Charleston, and
more recently of Columbia-Miss lanny Taber. She
died on Thursday, the d h instant, at the residence
of her brother, in Orangoburg. On Wednesday, she
was apparently in the enjoyment ol her usual good
health, and attended the marriage ceremonies of a
brother ; a short time afte: wards she complained of
*. slight heada-he, and in a few hours mor? the was
dead. Miss Taber h:d a remarkable fine voice, and
during her rc.-ideneo in Columbia was coniK etcd

CIMJMH.-Tho regular quarterly exercises of tho
First Baptist Church Sabbith School took place
yesterday afternoon in the churth. They wero con
dttcted oy tbo Rev W. H. Williams, pastor, assisted
by Superintendent Palfrey. There waa a good at?
tendance on tho patt of the scholars, who sang
-charmingly, several carefully selected hymns. The
pastor enchained tho attention of the children w?th

superintendent read his iep^rt, which was very
gratifying, showing an increase of nineteen scholars

DEATTI OF A PROMINENT MERCHANT. - Mr.
Morris Scligman, a copartner in the bouse of George
A. Hoplcy k Co,, of this city, died yesterday morn?

Scligman was a native of Hamburg. Germany, and
