GENEALOGICAL THEW.-At "Courtney's," Broad-street, there is a genealogical tree, done with crayon, by a lady artist of this city, which shows great taste. It exhibits at a glance the lino of Eng? lish Kings and their families, from William the Con? queror to Viotoria. lt is historically accu'ate and delicate in tracing and shadiug. The artist will make similar ones, or others of different designs, for five dollars. fc' To PRESERVE WOOD.-Mr. T. W. Heineman, Of New York, invented some time sine -, a process by which wood is saturated n Rh rosin and thus pre? set ved sound for n in Je tlc time. The American Wood-Preserving Company L :;t availed themselves of the patent, and are now introducing this method of preserving wood in all parts cf the country. Dr. J. R. A SMALL Com.-A Californian quarter dollar was received m this city yesterday, and on account of the rarity of such things in Charleston, is worth describing. It is not a United E tates coin, but is from a fctate cr private mint. It is about as Iorgo round as a three ct nt piece and vet y thin, weighing only the sixty-fourth part of an ounce. On one side is stamped tbc head of Liberty encircled .with stars, and on the reverse the denomination of the coin in a wreath of leaves. Tt is very well executed, but too small for ordinary nee. THE PLANTERS' AND MECHANICS' BANE.-In this case before Judge Car? penter, yesterday, Mr. Mc Grady commenced his ar? gument, gi ving a history of the case ann stating the reasons which made it necessary to file the bill, in order that exact justice might be done to all par? ties. Mr. Wm. Whaley repl'cd, saying that the scope of the bill was to protect all parties excel t the bill holders, and that an injucction to stay proceedings at law could not be granted in this case unless tho fund was under thc adminstration of thc court.
