But little business has beon doue during tho past
week, and quotations show no marked change, city
stock has been sold at from 57 to 60 in different
amounts, and is somewhat unsettled. Of the mar?
ket generally, lt may he said that holders aro stiff in
their demands, and that there is no great amount of
money seeking Investment.

absence of activ.ty, there being a strong indisposi?
tion on the part of manufacturers to pay prescut
prices, and thci<" purchases were consequently cn
the moat restricted scale, being generally only for
tho supply of pressing and immediate wants.
Holders, however, have exhibited much firmness
and make only tho m ist limited concessions, an 1 be?
lieve that the present consumptive demand and
limited supplies to come forward fall y authorize tho
maintenance of the present and even higher m'es.
Tho above mentioned condition of tho general mar?
ket bas eau -cd a depression of the article and prices
have had a tendency to go lower, and tho fibre at
Liveipool which opened at ll>?@ll%d declined to

dling upland which at the beginning of tho week was
quoted at 23% fell off to 27%c, and has since rallied

of the fibre have been moderate, and were 333 baga
of sea islands and Floridas, against 301 bags last
week, and 72 for the corresponding period last year.
While the market has been characterized by rather
less activity, there has boen a fair inquiry and prices
have been firm. We nota sales of about 250 bags of
sta islands and Floridas for the week, among which
were 7 stained at 35c; g asa islands at 73; 2 at 80; 8 at
82; 1 at 1-5; 16 at 90; dat 95; 31 at 91; 3 at $100; 9 at
9110;6 at 9116; 14 at 91 20; 9 at $1 25; 1 at 91 80; of
Floridas, 2 at 89 ; 6 at 86; 48 at $1. We quote : Com?
mon to medium sea island? at 66@86c; medium to
fine at t0c@$l10, and fine and choice at 91 15@1 30
and upwards V lb.
RICE.-Tho receipts of Carolina rough were very
limited, and probably did not exoeedsome 10 000
bushels for the week. With a steady and well sus?
tained inquiry the market has been fairly aetivc, and
there waa a steadily advancing tendency in the arti?
cle. We note eales of about 1000 stereos of clean
Carolina for the week, among which wero the fol?
lowing lots and prices, say CO tierce? at 8c lb ; 40
a* 8%;45at8%; 49at8%; 180 at 8%; 341 at fi%; 37

HAY.-The receip t have been about 860 bales of
Eastern, and we nota tales of this quality at $1 SS to
91 49 from th? wharf. North River from store la

CORN.-The market wat tatt)ar firmer fer thu ar?
tic e and Jobbing lota of Tenneatecare hold at $113
@115 fy bushel, we'ght, bag? included, with rather
a better inquiry for plantation purposes. The ar?
rivals have been United to light receipts by rai),
and a cargo of3009 bushels of prime white from Balti?
more. A part of the last wat told at fl io ft bushel,
weight, bulk.

OATS.-A cargo of 3000 bushels came to band
from Baltimore, bat had not boen lo'.d; lt wa? held

FLOUR-The market baa been supplied with a
good assortment of Northern and Western qualities.
Prices have bad an easier tendency and we quote,
say for Northern and Western super $6 76?* bbl;
oxtr A $7 25@7 75 ty bbl, and f wnlly at $8@9 60 ty bbl ;
extra family and choice may be quoted at $10? 12 ty
bbl. Southern brands aro in light supoly asd are

extra, and ?U1Q12 for family. Campsen's city mills
ts held at $9 60 ty bbl for super, $10 (0 for extra, and
$12@12 60 for extra and choice family.
BACON.-There is a moderate stock in the hands
of dealers, which is held at firm and advancing
rates iuconsequence of thc vory stiff position of tho
article ia all the leading markets. We quote prime
shoulders at 16%c ty lb; rib sides at 18%c; clear
rib at 19%c ty lb. Dry laltcd shoulders are selling
15c, and clear sides at 18c; hollies at 17%c, and primo
strips at li)' jc ty lb.
SUGAR AND MOL 1SSE8.-Several cargoes of the
new crop of Cuba buve lately leen received, and
there have been nome transactions, par , however, on
terras which did not transpire. We note a good in?
quiry atl2J??13%c ty lb lor grocery sugars, and 47
@60c ty gallen ter clayed molasses. 1 he first cargo
of the new crop Cuba was sold some days since by
Messrs. J. A, Enslow A Co. at BOS52c.
BUTTER-Prime Goshon, of which lhere is a
moderate stock, may bo qnoted at 45?48 ctp. ty lb.
Western and other low grades sell at S0@40c. ty lb,
as in quality.
SALT.-Wc note arrivals of about 3000 sacks direct
by steam, which was sold to arrive. Jobbers are
holding Liverpool at $2 10 from the wharf and $2 20
