PEANUTS. --Thia elmina dity, which has be? come quite an ar li clo of trad 3 from some of the Southern ports to the Northern markets, and which can be raised with great success in all the Southern States, has lately fallen very much in price, and has boen sold in New York at $1 50 per bushel.- This depression has boon erased by the growih of a large crop, which has been suddenly thrown upen tho market. North Carolina, which for a timo was the largest exporter, has row formidable competition from Virginia and other parts of the South; and im? portations have also been made from Africa, whero thc nut grows in considerable perfection. THEATRE.-Tho audience was rather small last evening on account of the weather, nevertheless the plays were well rendered, and deseived a larger audience. BAL MASQUE.-Night before last, at a pri? vate residence in this city, there was one of tho finest masquerades of tho season. The costumes were very appropriate and b??aseme. SUPPER AT THE WIDOW'S HOME-PRESENTA? TION or ? CANE TO THIS REV. JOHN RAC II MAN, D. XL-Several weeks slnco, a fow gentlemen of this oity generously offered-throuih Mrs. Leonard Cha? p?n-to furnish a Christmas dinner to the Inmates of the "Confederate Widows' Home." It was found impracticable to carry out tho plan at the time, ae many of the young ladies of the "Home" were absent during tho Christmas holidays with their friands. It was concluded, therefore, that a ?upper should be niven i'stead, and that the ladies of the Board of Control should bc invited. This pleasant coberne was carried out on Thursday night. The rooms, of the "Home" were thrown open and filled with happy groups, and the table was apread with abundant good things. The yoong ladies of the Institution, to whom the oue hundred dollar oske from Baltimore hid been voted st the late Pair, added it to the attractions of the table, and invited their friends to share it with them. All the inmates of the ..Home" partook of the supper with their friands, sud the evening was passed lu unrestrained but innocent enjoyment. A beautiful episode of the evening was the pre? sentation to the Rev. Dr. B lehman of the valuable walking stick, whioh was voted to him by the unani? mous suffrages of the visitors to the late fair. The presentation speech was made by tue Ber. 0. S. Voider, and Dr. Bachman responded with deep emotion and simple eloquence. Winthrop, Captain Stewart, whioh sailed from thia city for liverpool, December 13th, arrived at that port on the 8th January, making the passage in tho good time of tw ;ntj-flve days. BASE BALL- A STATE TOURNAMENT.- NOW that the wea* her is moderating and ?he evenings growing longer, base ball is becoming moro anim?t, ed ; match's are spoken of, tbe championship dlr cursed, and each player ls preparing to go into prac? tice with the determination tbat Charleston shall re? tain tho rauk ehe gained last year. Tho ensuing sea? son promises to be quite an interesting one lor the fraternity in this oily. Wo understand that the seve? ral clubs throughout the State contemplate holding a tournament here about tbe 4th of July, when the State championship will be deoided and prizes sward od to those who excel in tho several "points" in the game. Frmnstt, No. 30 Amherst sircet, Mru. ?liza Raynard, No. 4 Judith-street, and Dr. Uorlbeck's, corner of Wentworth and Coming streets, have been robbed m thc past two nights of poultry and fancy fowls.
