FEROCIOUS Doos.-Yesterday a gentleman
walking through Meeting-street was attacked by i
fierce dog, and but for hia stout clothing would have
been badly bitten. A case not quite as bad, but
somewhat similar, occurred in King-stteet, ne?? the

being clearly proved.
Wu. Cochran and Henry Drayton arrested yester?
day in Coming-street, and spent their New Year's day
iu the guardhouse.
T. C. Holloway, colored, was arrested yesterday
for throwing bricks at the Military HalL Be after

SAVisas OF THE COLORED PEOPLE. -The Jan?
uary ni .tiber of the National Savings Bank, pub
. l;shed monthly at Washington, D. C., gives a very"
interesting statement of the savings of the colored
people up to December 1st, 1863, through thc agen?
cy of the trust fund companies, instituted since thu
war, in the Sou'h. The figures show that in twenty
four branches of the freedmen's savings banks-all
located in the Southern States except one in New
York city-the aggregate wings or the colored peo
plo have boen S932.8S9 for eleven '.months up to De?
cember 1st, 1868, against $556,673 lor the sime pe?
riod in the previous year-an increase of $376?C1G.
The total number of depositors is 9000. The branch
at Washington shows the largest abrogate deposits
and increase. On December 1st, 1867, the deposits
in tho Washington concern were $58,959. and on De?
cember ls*, ultimo, they were nearly doubled, foot?
ing up $115,133. The increase at Baltimore was
nearly in thc same ratio; the previous year's deposits
amounted to $46.771, and this year they stand $71,
73d At Beaufort South Carolina, thc increase was
from $48,618 to $77.738. At Memphis the advance
was from $18,673 to $32,793. Figuro? bke these,
. showing nearly a million dollars already sav d by
nine thousand people, hitherto aim : st wholly unac?
quainted with money, speak better than words, and
givo point to the moral of that solid independence
founded upon an account in the bank.

celebrated Emancipation Day by a procession,

endeavored to impress upon bis hearers the vain
the right of suffrage, one of the legitimate sequel
