. The I'harleston Money Market.
T nuusDAY, December 31, 1868.
The principal business during the week has been
in City of Charleston stock, which the bears have
attempted to force down, with but little success.
Thc impresi?n prevails that, even if the Supreme
Court grant the mandamus in the election case, the
effect on city stock will not be permanently unfavor?
ite, in face of the fact that the city may bo expected
to resume the payment of interest in April next.
This has encouraged the bulls, and they seem deter?
mined to hold their stock for full prices. Yesterday
the stock was in active demand, and 65 was offered
and refused for a large amount, lt is doubtful
whether tho stock could have boen bought for less
than 57, and the market now is hardening last.
Bank of the ?state bills fell off rapidly when it be
came known that Governor f colt would not issnothe
bonds of tho State lor the bills which had been fund
I ed. These bills, which cold ss high aa fifty uwaok
or two ago, are now called 31).
