THE NEW PLANK ROAD.-The new plank road iu the northeastern part of the city, which is lo terminate in Calhoun, at the corner of Anson, is fast neari ig completion, and when finished will cost in the neighborhood of six thou-and dollars. COTTON STE ALUO ON WADIIALAW ISLAND. -Several colored men who have been depredating en .cotton on Wudmalaw. were arrested and brought to the city on yesterday, and properly committed by warrsa. t. SNOW FALL.-Passengers by the Northeast? ern Railroad report a heavy fall of anew yesterday, about twenty miles from the eily. AN ODD PLACE yon A SKDPYABD.-The Preg? non Brothers, two of cur enterprising young citi? zens, are constructing a sloop in their yard in Hen? rietta-street. The craft wUl be of seventeen cords wood capacity, and when finished wUl have ta be moved on rcUers through Henrietta, Elizabeth and Calhoun streets to the river. A CHAUIXSTON PSUCA DONNA.-Mamselle Louisa Durand, a native of this city, but who has re? sided in New York for some time, mode a successful debut in the West lately, and will pay her native home a visit this season. INVESTIOAT?ON OF THE FIRE AT CLAUSSEN'S MILLS.-An investigalion into thc origin ot thc fire at Clau-ssen's mills developed the fact that it was the result af accident, and was either caused by rats carrying off matches aud igniting them, or from a candle which had been used in tt;o fifth story, on the afternoon preceding the conflagration. ALMOST A FTRE.-Last night after Mr. T. D. Claacy had cloted bis store on East Bay and lotircd, a fire was discovered therein, by some persons pass? ing, who nuable to procure the keys in Mme to ent ar, broke ix the panel of the ooor, entered and ex? tinguished it. Had it not been extinguished so promptly a serious result might have followed, as Mr. clancy's stock is most? ly of an inflammable n?ture. A CASE OF DISTRESS.-At tho firo at Claus sen's mills, tko other night, an old white mau, in very impoverished circumstances, with a family ol aevea motherless children, was tempted to carry off a barrel ef flour he found lying in thc street. NEW AND SPACIOUS ESTABLISHMENT.-For some time, Messrs. McLoy k Bice have had in con? templation a move from their present I o limited accommodations, No. 268 King-street, to tho spacious establishment, at thc corner of King and Hasol streets, whick has been overhauled, remodelled and adapted, la every particular, to an extrusive dry gooda and carpet trade. The entire shelving has been put up anew, and in keeping with thc most modern designs and requirements, by Messrs. Sawncr k Ferguson, and tho premises from stem to stern, repainted in appiopriate colors, by Messrs. T. A. Beamish k Co.
