NEW YORK, October 17.-THE MARKET.-In oar
last report the market dosed active and strong at
28c for middling uplands. Liverpool was dull at
lOXalOJi for uplands and Orleans. On Saturday a
large business was done, and prices advanced Kc.
Sales 3924 bales at 26Kc. Liverpool mare active end
advancing. Sales 15.000 bales. Middling uplands
lOijd. Monday, the market opened strong but
closed weak, owing to increased offerings on spot
and to arrive. Sales 1839 bales at 26J26KC Liver?
pool buoyant Sales 20,000 bales at lO&alOKd.
Tuesday, spinners and exporters bought sparingly,
and as the stock on sale was larger, prices declined ?
frac?oa. Sales 2214 bale- at 26c. Liverpool firm at
10J<d. Sales 12,000 bales. Wednesday, heaviness in
this market continued, and holders showed so:ue
disposition to press sales on wharf. Sales 2697 bales.

very unsettled feeling, and Cotton was offer?
ed at 25 cents for middling on the wharf,

The decline to 25c on Thursday brought in more
buyers than could be supplied, and all lots offered :-t
Sotations were soon taken. There has been more
ength shown this week in the low grades, which
are scarce and in demand for expert. Our quotations
wiR show that the difference between low middling
and middling has been reduced to Kc. Notwith
standing the 17.693 bales received at this port during
the week, our stock shows but a small increase The
quantity on the market is as amallas it has been for
months, and lots aro sold as soon as offered. 1 mai hu

gagements of a few thousand bales. There is no sLip
on the berth at present, and the room by steamer is
not large.

195,904 bales receiv- d so fir this season, spinners
have taken 83,603 bales, exporters 47,085 bolos, and
65,216 bales have been added to tne stock on 1st Sep?

bale? (average middling) were sold at 2 tc, January
delivery. On Moud ty. If U bales middling for No?
vember at 25c, and 250 bales middling for December
at 24c. Thursday, 300 bales, at 22c for low middling
and 23c for middling. January delivery. Friday, 200

month up to March, there were large orders which

STATISTICAL POSITION.-The stock in Liverpool is

tober 18, 1867, the stock was 718,000 bales; afloat
