THAT SDFFBAOE.-NOW that the Democratic
Convention has adjourned; it is difficult io correct
any-misunderstanding as to what it did or did not
do, but the Phoenix hives three points in relation to
the Convention which must be observed, and then
closes tho subject. - ? *-'
1. The Mercury, in its special telegram, said : "The
Central Executive Committee appointed by the- April
Convention, expressed a desire for a conference, and
the Convention appointed a committee to confer with
them. They reported a basis of union, which was
adopted by the Convention.''
; The Phoenix says : "This statement is incorrect,
and the matter was corrected as promptly as possible.
As Boon as the Committees of Conference met, it was
stated by the Slate Central Executive Committee that
no desire of the kind had been volunteered by them,
and it was understood and agreed that the conference
should be put upon a mutual desire on the part of |
bom parties to have a united party in this State.
