The highest prices were not in every iup'.ar-.ce maintained to the close, and the tone of thc market last nuht was somewhat weak. This was caused by the rapidity of the advance of thc early ?crt of thc week, and a feeling that holdere might be tempted to throw their stocka on the mar? ket with thc hope of getting in at lower rates when money became tighter. In South Carolina Railroad Securities transactions have been numerous, and the market was very buoy? ant. Stock has advanced twelve dollars, Sis Per Cent. Bonds seven dollar?, and Seven Per Cents about three dollar?. Charleston City Stock has advanced nine dollars, and the Fire Loan Bonds five dollars. City Bills close at 97. State Bond? (old) are firmer at an advance of two do lar?, and steck ha? advanced four dollars. Bille Receivable have been in active demand, and are quoted ut Si, or au advance of three dollars.with an upward tendency. People's Bank and First National Stock are better, and Northeastern Railroad Certificates have moved five dollars in the right direction. The staple at Liverpool during most of the time bas been firm, active, and even excited, the rates, which opened at 9J?d. to 9?id. for Middling Upland, have had a disposition to harden, having improved to lO^fSjlO.^d. rb-, closing yesterday rather weak, while at New York price? commenced on the first of the week at 23, weakened to 24.^?25, stiffened to 25>i(&2G, and receJed to 25(3,25^, closing yesterday at 23c. fb. for New York Middling. The general expectation here of a rise in value has caused a speculative feeling which much of the time keeps quotations at this point above what the giving rates of Liverpool would warrant, while the courEe of prices have lately sustained their action, and their operations have been fortunate.
