In groups ol t .ree or ounda o> ton
One u va-e, un despairing light
Against two huuured thousand mau 1
No pomp of war their eyes to blind,
No blare or mu3i.- as tn ey KO,
With just su h weapons as i hey find,
in desperate ouset on tue toe.
They seize tt?j ike, the torch, the scythe
Unequal c.nte3t,-..ut weat then ?
With stead.ast e.-es an i spirits b.ithe
They face two hundred tnousand men !
The jails ate yawning through the and,
The scan* dd'.- fatal click I heard
But st il moves on the scanty band,
By ja l and -caffo.d undeterred.
A m. mein'? pause tu wail the lust
Who fe.lia Freedom's fight-and then,
With tee h nrru-.-et, a d u.eathiui: ia t.
They face two hundred thousand men I
Obscure, unmarked, with r:one to praise
Their fealty to a tiuinpled l ind

For despera to causo mau: iii mr stand.
They wage no public war. 'tis t.ue,
They ? trike an a fly, aud strike, - what then ?
Tis only thus these faithful lew
Can front two hundred thousand men 1
You call them ignorant, rai-h und wi d
But who can tell how p t-io s feel
With centuries i f t rinent ;nlcd
Above the laud to wu ich ?hey kneel?
And who has made.them what wc fiud

And breaking forth, with m y blind,
To beard t*o hundred thousand men I
Who made their Uves so h -rd to hear
They care not how their ives are lost I
Their land a symbol ot despa r
A wreck on ruin's ocean tossed!
We, happier hero, may cara and sneer,
And Judge ihem burs.dy-but what then ?
No gloves for i hose who havo as lo ea
To face two hundred thousand men 1
Honor the brave 1 Let Eng and rave
Against them as a savagu band
We know .heir toes, wo know their woes.

Nor care we by what savage skill
They fight two hundred thou and men ?
