:Bro LOADS.-A few days ago we noticed that the
engine Currie had come down from Augusta, on
('io bouth Carolina Railroad, with thirty-two cars
of cotton. This has i>een beaten, for the engine
Burnside came in on Monday with thirty-three
cars, containing no less than 891 bales of cotton.
THE YOUNO MEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION.-Tho
nightly prayer meetings of this Association are
still continued. A large number of young men
were present yesterday evening and considerable
interest was manifested. The exercises consist of
prayer and exhortation, and the rooms of tho As?
sociation are open to all who may chose tc attend.
HOMICIDE IN SUMTER, S. C.-We learn from the
Wilmington Journal that a diffi?utty occurred on
Monday in tho *.illagc of Sumter, S. C., between
Mr. Joseph Hodge and Mr. Charles Duran", in
which, ii appears that- Mr. Durant was shot by
Hodge, and died shortly afterwards. Hodge gave
himself up to tho Sheriff immediately after com?
mitting the deed. _______
EAST BAST.-I he sidewalks of this old street are
boin?r rapidly In id with the asphaitum pavement,
the workmen haviug already reached the corner ot
Queen on thc West side. The portion ol the streot
that has been laid with this mixture has given
general satisfaction, and a bard, firm and durable
pavement has taken the place of the mud holes
to?if 'formerly ornamented the sidewalk. East
Bay has long ueeded a good pavement, and the
ttsphaltum appears to answer every purpose.
THE CONCERT TO-NIQHT.-There axe few persons
who will noglect the opportunity that is afforded
to-night of hearing good music. TW" concert
will bo in every respect a superior entertainment,,
as tho performers are of known musical talent and
thorougly conversant with their different parts.
The programme embraces selections from the best
masters, and the whole will be an undoubrod suc?
cess. The Hall can accommodate a few moro
than it did before it was renovated, but there will
bs few emp y seats to-night, as this not only is
the first concert of the season, but the inaugural
of the Hall. _

DAN CisnxLo.-Tho redoubtable Dan was greet?
ed yesterday by a large and apprcciative\adience,
who tostified their delight in the performances by
frequent murmurs of applause. Dan has flung his
barnier to the breeze, and his hugo canvass pa?
vilion is the centro of attraction, acting on the
juvenile portion of tho community like a magnet,
and rendering tue presence of Uncle Sam's troops
necessary to keep the eager crowd at a respectful
distance. The performance last night was what
could be expected of Dan's Circus, and the actors
showed by their feats of horsemanship and agility
that they were thorough experts. Among them,
however, there aro a few who deserve special men?
tion. Little Hiooio alternately delighted and
alarmed the aadience by hor daring feats, while
Mademoiselle Pauline attracted universal atten?
tion by her graceful equestrianism. The acrobats,
by theil' feats of agility, won rounds of applause
and she wed by their various exercises that they
were as near India ruboor as it is possible for a
human to become. It must be remembered that
this is the lae: day for Dan's performance, and
those vrno have not paid him a visit should not
hesitate, but (:o at once, as the collection ol rare
animals ilono is worth seeing.

THE GRAND COMBINATION SHOW AND CIRCUS.
Breathes there the man with soul so dead to all
amusements that ho his never heard of John
Robinson's great Circus, and is not laying his
spare greenbacks aside for this grand show ? Echo
answers. No. Everybody knows Robinson, and all
the picaninnies have been preparing to give him a
cordial reception.
Wo had a pleasant call from Mr. W. H. Hough,
the gentlemanly business manager of the "insti?
tution," and he assures us that there will be no
disappointment. Tho grand cavalcade will parade
through our streets on Monday moram g, and wi 1
be a most attractive MJOW ot itself. The manager
has ample accommodation for all in ordinary times
but those who would witucss tho exhibition will
have to bo on thc ground early.
The press throughout tho country have be?n

tion, all pronouncing it to be ono of the most exton
sive, orderly and talented equestrian troupes that
?R5 visited the South for many years. In this
connection, we tak:- pleasure in correcting a re?
port that has been circulated of tho death of little
Alice, the child equestrienne of the troupe. The
petite artiste is unhurt, and is prepared to competo
with her male compeers in feats of r-oreemnnship.
The present exhibition of wild animals is quite
numerous. And embraces a number of tho .'..est
species which hayo over be.-n on exhibition in ?he
?South. The monster elephant, "Empress," the
majestic Wapitaa or Reindeer, and a small regi?
ment of monkeys, will bo introduced into the ring

arena. Among tho monkeys is a little pet, abuut
a week old, and is perhaps thc greatest curiosity
in the circus, as it is the only baby monkey now
?a exhibition. Numbers of persons io different
x-ities who object to the hippodrome, have visited

THE CHARLESTON THEATRE.-Tho watchful e
that have long been turned toward the Hibern
Hall, and have noted every step which tended
the desired end-its transformation into a thea

public have taken more interest than tho H.b

able to thc community, will not have the same ;

that Messrs. Templeton & Bro., Theatrical Mai
gera, have leased the building, and will, on
about thc 18th, enliven tho community with
series of dramatio entertainments, will be gro:t

arranged especially for these exhibitions, bari;
an addition that affords fine sta^e room, with t
necessary space for scenery, trap doors, and t
different paraphernalia needed by tho knights
thc buskin and the sock. The internal appearan
of the renovated hall has been so often describ?
that it is useless at prosent to refer to its coi
pk'tcness. Tho stage was constructed for theati
eel purposes, and has every convenience for

Messrs. Templeton & Bro., the lessees and ma
agers, have an extended experience in theatric
matters, being connected with both the Savanna
and Vicksburg theatres, and under their tos torn?
eare the new Charleston theatre will soon equal i
predecessor. A glance at the list ot plays is sui
cen; to revive too expectations of old theat
goers, and, when it is known that the compai
