with the Enterprise, that Order No. 10 was wise,
and approved by the people, but the above asser?

interesta of a city which it is the duty of ever]
true South Carolinian to build hp. There is no cit:
on the American continent whose merchants ari
more liberal and lenient, and who exercise a highe:
sense of honor iu their commercial relations witl
the people generally than those of Charleston. Thi
has been the? character of-Charleston merchant,
for more than a half century, and it is to be re
gretted thai snob sn assertion as the above shouli

that the editor of the Enterprise is well informe;
with regard to the high tone by which Charles toi
merchants have always been actuated. When w<
take into consideration that Charleston lost all he
capital for a canse which she considered to b
honor, the safety and tho interest of the Southon
people, we should be liberal enough to bebe vu tha
she is still wining; to accomplish, though by dil
feront ?mana, tho same object. - We know the fae
that Charleston merchants, in. many instances
have made propositions to debtors to settle claim
contracted, lieforo and during the war, that hav
surprised the debtors themselves. We hav
now in our possession, claims ? from Charles
ton merchants ? for collection, accompanioi
by letters authorizing us to make the mos
liberal discount*. Much of our time fo
the last six weeks has been spent in Charleston
on professional business, and, while there, w
availed ourself of the opportunity of speaking 'fe
many of the leading merchants with regard to th
future prosperity of South Carolina and her eiste
States. And while they considered th* futur
rather dark, still they seemed to feel satisfied thal
if the Southern people whose habits, manners am
customs are alike, would unite in building u]

and museum was over one hundred thousand dollars. It
will be observed that the University, as now organized, ls
the legal representative of the four Medical College.) that
it has absorbed. It ls a Uberal school of medicine, con?
fined to no dogma, nor attached lo any medical clique
but embraces In Its teaching everything of value to tho
profession.
Setriom.-It has two lull H?sitions each year, commenc?
ing on the lat of October, and continuing until the 1st of
January, as its first session, and from tho 1st ot January
to tho 1st ol April, BB its second; thc two constituting one
full course of lectures. It has al no a summer session,
commencing tho 1st April and continuing until August,
for the preparatory branches, such oe Latin, Greek,
Mathematics, Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, Anatomy
Physiology, etc.
Ticket*.-Tickets to the full course of lectures $120, or
$00 for each session. For tho summer or preparatory
courso $25. Oraudatlng iee ?:lt). To aid young men of
moderate meaus, the University has iBBued Ave hundred
^.scholarships, which arc sold to ?rat-course students for
$75. and to secoud-course students and clergymen for
$50, each constituting the holder a life member, with the
perpetual privileges of the lecturas, and all the teachings
of the school. The only additional teen are a > early dis?
secting and matriculating ticket, each of which in $5.
Thc Advantage? of scholarship*.-The student holding a
scholarship can enter the College at any time during the
year, attend as long as he chooses, and re-enter the Insti?
tution as frequently as desired.
It requires no proviouB reading or Html y to euter the
University on scholarships, hence, all private tuition fees
are saved.
Students, by holding scholarships, can prosecute other
business a part of the time.
Tho candidate for graduation can present himself al
any tune, and receive his degree as soon as qualified.
In case a stun eut should hold a scholarship and not bi
able to attend lectures, lt can be transferred to another,
thns preventing any IOBS.
Parents, guardians or friends of students wlBhing tc

advancing one-half the price and paying the balance
when the student enters. Physicians and benevolent
men can bestow great benefit upon poor young men by
?iresentlng them a scholarship, and thus enabling thew
o obtain an honorable profession.
The Faculty embraces seventeen eminent physicians
and surgeone. The University has associated with it a
large hospital clinic, whete every form of medical and
surgical disease is operated on and treated in the pres?
ence of the clan.
COLLESE BUILDING.-The College building, located in
Ninth street, south of Walnut, ls the finest In the city.
Its front is collegiate gothic, and is adorned with em
battlements and embrasures, presenting a novel, bold,
and beautiful appearance. Tho facade ls of brown stone,
ornamented by two towers, rising to the elevation ot
eighty feet, and crowned with an embattled parapet.
The building contains between fifty and sixty rooms, all
supplied with water, gas, and every other convenience
that modern improvement can contribute to facilitate
medical instruction. Only five hundred scholarships
will be Issued, and as two hundred and filly are no*
sold, those who wish to secure one should do so at once
Money can be remitted by express, or a draft or check
sent on any National Bank In the United States, whet
