SLOAN, Brown & Co/j Wharves, we had the pleasure ut' looking at, yesterday, one of the most perfect samples of tho great staple of the South we remember to have noticed. Its beauty of color, and admirable finning, was unsurpassed, and no one, who having seen such elegant speci? mens of the stapJe, but that would come to the conclusion that natnro has given this part of the globe unequalled advantages for the raising of the article. These specimens wore grown in Ander? son District,'in this State, by Mr. CHAS. WALLI FOBD, and were sold by Mr. SLOAN for 19* cents pr,- pound. Mach of tho appearance of these specimens were owing to tho excenont gins used m preparing lt^for market, which wo learn i<j known as the "Gullitt Gin," originally got up in Mississippi, and sold by our fellow-oitizen, C. The car was instantly stopped and the boy carried Into the corner grocery store. Dr. OOIKE was called in and every intention bestowed upon tho sufferer. Though much bruised aud mangled the leg may be saveiL, but wo trust this accident will prove a warning to others of the class who weto in the habit of jampmg on tho cars. No ' blame can be attached to the conductor or drive aa it was not known the boy was ou the car until the accident occurred. THE PBESBYTEBY or SOUTH CABOLINA.-The Carolina Spa dan says: "This ecclesiastical body, aa was expected, met in Spartanburg on last Thursday, and continued ito sessions until Satur? day evening. It is one of the four Presbyteries of the Presbyterian Church in this Stale, aud includes all the ministers ?nd churches belonging to that denomination of Christians in the northwestern District?. There were present, as members ot the body, twenty-three ministers and as many ruling elders. The proceedings ot1 tho Presbytery brought up no matters of special interest, beyond the usual routine of ecclesiastical business. The reports on the state of religion in the seveial churches were generally encouraging, and several revivals were mentioned as having occurred du? ring the past year. "The amendments' which have been proposed to the Constitution pt tho Presbyeer.au Church ia the South, aud which has elicited much discus? sion, came up for consideration, bot all action in regard to them was postponed by this Presbytery. Its proceedings throughout were characterized by perfect harmony, rhiring tho week frcquont re? ligious services were" held ill the Presbyterian Church, and abie and ?loquent discourses dolivor ed by members of the Presbytery. The Rev. Pro? fessor ANDERSON, of Davidson College, was pres? ent, and preached a sermon of no ordinary power on Saturday night. "Thc Rev. Dr. PLUKEB, of the Theological Semi? nary a Columbia, was also present on Sabbath ; preac! mg in the morning at tho Presbyterian Chuyn, and at night in tho Methodist Church. We need not say that crowded congregations heard him with delight, and wo trust with profit. "We aro requested to say that the Presbytery adopted resolutions, returning thanks to the peo? ple of Spartanburg for their cordial and generous hospitality to its members, and to the Methodist and Baptist Churches for the kind offer of their houses of Worship for tho use of the Presbytery. And we would say on the part of our ci tuena, that we have been much gratified with the visit of the Presbytery to our town. It ha? been a pleasure lo us to receive them, and to en'oy, for a few days, their society as christian gentlemen, and then services as ministers of the Gospel. Many ol the merchants in the interior have only delayet". their purchases until their cotton could be sent to the market, and the strange faces now seen in the streets, and the lively appearance of the hotels, are a proof that though long de? layed the fall trade will yet be of some importance. As the metropolis of South Carolina. Charleston has alway? been considered the market for nu? merous merchants beth in this and contiguous States, and though the fire and the sword have made sad havoc with her fairest proportions, yet her ancient prestige remains, and those mer? chants who still continue their purchases will find that the advantages offered are the same as when she was the Queen City of the South, lt is grati? fying to see that numbers adhere to their old al? legiance, and have not been induced to leave firm friends by tho specious arguments of their oppo? nent?. The merchants of Charleston have strain? ed every nerve to accommodate their customers, aud the steck? now ia their establishments are roily equal to the demande of the trade. Ou East Bay* among the large grocery and auc? tion "stores considerable activity prevails, and the country and city customers vie with each other iu the purchase of goods. Large Pipplies and con? signment* are received by every steamor, and the old thoroughfare displays more business life than for months past. Tho business locality of Meet? ing aud Hayne streets, though not ao extensive as East Bay, is not without its tull share of the pre? vailing activity. The diunuuers are in good spir? its, and the appearance of the etorea denoto that the trade han commenced. Among the changes thal have occurred in thia section, we- notice that the enterprising firm of EDWIN BATES & Co. have secured the store at the corner of Meeting and Pinckney streets for their large stock of clothing. This will enablo them to display each branch of theu- business in a more attractive manner, the large hon front building Doing devoted to the dry goods department. The pleasant weather and freedom from any sickness, should aloue tempt the country buyer to the City by the S&a- and we feel assured that once here a glance at the different stocks and a knowledge of Hie prices asked", will induce hun to go no further? but to invest immediately. A TIMELY REMOVAL.-The fraction pf a house on East Bay, near tho Custom Souse, which has long boeu au oyc-soro io the public, is being pulled dowu, and the place which it occupied cleared away. This house was known aa the Fitzaimmons House, BO called from the former owner of thia property, whion waa sold td the United States Government for 1120,800. One-half of the house was taken away in order to allow room for the new CuBtom House steps. The remaining half was boarded up and was used as an office for the archi? tect, and during the war by tho naval officers.
