ORDER NO. 82.-At the recent meeting of the City Council, the Mayor stated that in an interview with General CANST, the latter announced his intention of modifying that section of Order No. 32 relating to bar-rooms. What this modification will bo is not kn awn, but that it will increase the number of licensed bar-rooms there can be little doubt. The applications for No. 2 Licenses made at the last Cession of Conned were postponed until the de? cision of the Commanding General was mado public. His van guard were busy yes? terday in erecting a huge fence on the west sido of Meeting street, noar Queen. A large area of the burnt district will be enclosed and the huge tent pitched upon thia spot, it being found impossible to obtain the use of the Citadel Green. DAN is evidently not afraid of hard times, but makes his ' advances boldly, trusting to a full harvest of green? backs. HON. W. To describe thc stock of a first class dry goods store would bo an impossibility, as we are not acquainted with tho myeterioup names that are given to tho different style? of goods. The ladies, who are connoisours, aro thoroughly posted, and we direct their attention in the first place to the advertisement of Mr. MC? CARTHY, and secondly, to his establishment, vfhere they will find every article new and of the Diode de Paris. Mr. MCCARTHY has also a foil line of plan? tation and domestic goods, suitable tor the coun? try trade, and offers inducements to bia customers and the public generally to call and purchase. His goods will be sold low for cash or city accept? ance. THE CHARLESTON HOUSE.-There are few places' on King street that are more widely known than the large dry goods establishment of Messrs. STOLL, WEBB & Co. Since this firm was organized, it has stesdilr progressed in public favor, and is - now one of the best condncted and most popular business houses in the city. The pxopric ;ors are young Charlestonians, who have been trained lo this business, and understand the art of pleasing their numerous customers both in the quality and price of their goods. It has long been customary for the King street merchants to open their winter stocks at this time, and though the win ti y blasts are yet /ar distant, it is tba part of wisdoa. ta pre? pare for the future. Messrs. STOLL, WEBB & Co, have now on hand a stock composed of complete lines of goods, comprising dress goods, domes? tics, coverings, hosiery, and. in fact, every article that could be desired for the wholesale or retail trade. This discrepancy is due" partly to the fact that the public and pri-. The opening day is hardly a fair criterion of the num? ber of pupils, and the Trustees anticipate as large au attendance as before the vacation.
